Guest guest
Morning Elaine, At 10:07 PM 12/06/2001 -0800, you wrote: >What is potash, were do you get it, how much is 60 grains? Potash is a chemical form of potassium. Seems it may be K2O5 but I may be wrong. Likely some of the chemist types will tell us more. One of the forms is called Murate of Potash, typically a plant food. >The doctor has me on K-Tabs 20 MEQ CR TAB, is this the same as 20 MG ? >I am always low on potassium. Gee, I am sorry to hear that you are supporting the medical gestapo in their efforts to control our nutrients. <grin> I am working very hard to avoid that. What about that bogus unit they are using? MEQ ?? Do you know anything about it? Tell them to go fly a kite ! >What is the difference? >Thanks so much for your advice. Charles posted a few messages about this. Have you spent some time on his potassium site? It does take more than a few minutes to extract some of the wisdom there. Oh..... I think you 20 MEQ is about 825 mg. How many do you take per day? Guest guest
Evening Elaine, >> Potash is a chemical form of potassium. Seems it may be K2O5 but I > may be wrong > Were do I get this? No one said this material is acceptable for a human nutrient, did they? Do you want to use it for a plant food or... Check you local fertilizer stores. > Were is the site???? http://members.tripod.com/~charles_W/arthritis.html >> Oh..... I think you 20 MEQ is about 825 mg. How many do you take per day? > One Ok.... have you tried to arrive at a total from other sources? No matter how I try, I cannot come up with a total that is high enough to suit me. I just ordered 3 products to add to my water. When I get these items, I should be able to formulate a liquid that will supply another 1000 or so mg of potassium with lots of other things. Gee, I hope I don't have to add cool aid to make it taste like something one is supposed to drink. If it taste real bad, I can always add some lemon juice or cayenne pepper. I use liquid cayenne as an enhancement to water and tea. Actually the taste is different and I like it. Seems no one in the world has taste buds like mine. After I get this " magic water " or " witches brew " formulated I will post the analysis for the criticism of the list. I feel sure it will need some. <grin> Wayne
Guest guest
Dear Elaine, " Potash " is potassium hydroxide. It is very caustic although in a slow release capsule it is probably safe (reasonably). Anything expressed as meq of potassium (elemental) has to be multiplied by about 38 to get milligrams. I suspect that K-tabs are the chloride though. I still think that food is the best, cheapest, and safest way to get potassium. For instance if you ate 1500 calories of food each day by munching on nothing else but unboiled potatos or bannanas all day, you would receive about 6000 milligrams of potassium per day. That should be more enough for 99.9% of the people in this world. And best of all you would get a lot of other nutrients if you varied your foods better than the above. If like a gorilla you ate nothing but celery, you might actually get toxic amounts. Sincerely, Charles Weber
Guest guest
Dear Elaine, The potassium in food site is at; http://members.tripod.com/~charles_W/arthritis9.html You can also see a less useful site which is a summary of copper and potassium of sorts at; http://members.tripod.com/~charles_W/potassium.html which will give you a bird's eye view.
