*nodding* Yeah, that's something I'm still struggling with...finding a

balance

between " treats " and " binges " . =) I just heard about a plan the other

day where

for two days in a row you eat meats, vegetables, clear soups, and salads

(a.k.a.

low carbing, but not the veggie-free Atkins way), and then on the third

day you

eat the pasta & candy you've been craving. I haven't tried this yet

myself as I

just heard about it, but anyway...

Hi Mindy,

Atkins is not a " veggie-free* program. In fact, starchless veggies are

absolutely mandatory. The plan you mentioned sure sounds unhealthy, don't you

think??

I would think this could cause binging - it would in me certainly.

Pam,

The Atkins program confuses me, to be sure....I think he is the most

stringent of the low-carbers. Probably I describe him as veggie-free

because during

induction (20 g carbs/day) it is difficult to load up on vegetables.

And doesn't he recommend induction for at least two weeks? So, I dunno.

Anyway, which part of the plan I mentioned did you think was unhealthy?

The first 2 days or the third day? =)

Hi Ed,

Do you say this because it has made you sick? or because it just goes

against the grain of what you've always been taught?

Dr. Atkins is a cardiologist and has made health his life quest and

has allowed many people to live full, healthy, placque free lives.

I however, I do not beleive, unless one is in imminent danger of

dying and has no chance for life, that it's necessary to go to the

extremes he does. I find Suzanne Sommers, Sommersize, which is based

loosly on Atkins method as well as many other out-of-the-box

thinkers/healers, program very easy to do, have lost weight, my nails,

hair and skin, at 52 are like it was when I was in 30's and mostly my

heart is now healthy again.
