Howdy.

You seem so informed on so many different subjects I thought I would throw

this at you.

I have long drawn out labors (average 15 hours), I want this birth to be quick

and easy, any Ideas?

I am taking primrose oil and I walk about 2 miles 4-5 days a week. I also

take prenatal vit.'s and extra calcium.

I am due in 3 weeks and 6 days (Feb. 10th)

which makes me 36 weeks today.

I am open to any suggestions! Nanci

Nanci,

Hello! I've had 2 babies, and the first labor was very painful, and the

second was very easy and painless. I wasn't

sure what caused the painless aspect at first, but after doing some research I

am pretty sure that it was the liquid

Cal-Mag supplement that I took every waking hour of labor with the second. You

can find it in your local HFS - it's in

a white bottle with an orange & blue label, I think. It's good that you take

extra calcium; just remember to do the

magnesium thing too because they work in tandem. Oh, and also, a good thing to

try is the PN-6 formula. That also

helped with the pain, I'm sure.

Dear Nanci,

I don't know how you went through your last labours but mine were only a few

hours long and I attribute this to having stood throughout them. I just would

not let the nurses make me lie down and I hurtled through the whole process.

When I got a contraction I would hold on to a towel bar for support and put

my head down on it at times to concentrate on my breathing when the contractions

became intense. I forced myself not to tense up thanks to relaxation classes I

took beforehand and I almost did not make it to the hospital for the first child

because I did not think I was in the last stages of labour since it did not seem

bad at all.

Take care.

Nothing is worse than having a nurse keep coming in to keep tightening the

d*** heartbeat monitor strap tighter across your stomach. I had belt lookng

marks on my stomach afterwards. I admire those who had theirs at home or

another less sterile, uncomfortable environment and had a more pleasant labor

because of it.

Hi Anne,

I also stand through most of the labor. I have my babies at home and there

is no way you would get me to lie down. The last one was born in water, it was a

wonderful way to have a baby, but I wish it was shorter!

I also have squatted through a lot of one of my labors, did not seem to

help.

Any other ideas? Yes relaxing is important!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer!!!!! Nanci

15 hrs is not so bad... That is an average, although not fun either! My first

was 39hrs of hard active labor in a hospital with the nurses bugging me the

whole time to get an epidural- I swear annoying nurses is what made me tense up

and prolong the labor! With my 2nd, it was at home. I was in labor for 2 weeks-

each night at midnight I went into hard contrax for 6 to 8 hours! EVERY night,

and was at 3cm the entire time. After 2 wks I gave up,lol! I went to check my

email and my water broke! Then I had a TOO fast active labor of 2hrs and 45

minutes! WAY too fast. I think maybe 6 hrs would have been nice. Give your body

time to get into a groove and not be in shock from either too fast or too slow

of a labor...

Walking, rocking your hips either while standing or on all 4's, being in a tub

of warm water... All good ways to deal with labor. Having good support from

partner, caregiver, staff, doula are very important as well. But babies are to

be born when they are ready...

My 2nd was born on the toilet at home. That is where he was meant to be born. I

swear had I been out of the birthtub sooner, my labor would have been even

shorter- as soon as I was out of the tub for a change of scenery he was born in

10 minutes!

Do you have a birth ball? They do wonders... Rolling pins are great on the low

Sindea,

Was baby actually born in the water or were you off the toilet quick enough?

My midwife brings the ball, never thought of the roiling pin.

--- Nanci,

I've heard Blessed Thistle is good in that respect.

I hope I did not come across badly! I just remember after such a long labor

with my first, that I was hoping for anything under 24 hrs!!! Let us know when

the babe arrives!

Teegan was born ON the potty! If you go to this link

http://teegan20.homestead.com/home.html scroll down half-way and you can see the

BW pics of him on my tummy and can kinda see the toilet. Next to that photo he

is being weighed by the midwife in the animal print home hanging scale... I

later used the tub to relax in and the like, since I did not use it for the

birth...

I found some at http://www.lifebalm.com/page.cgi?productid/formulas_nz/prenatal

..... I guess it's been renamed to

Pregnancy-6. Originally I bought it from mothernature.com, but couldn't find it

on their website today.

said. I did need a reality check, a lot of women have a lot worse time than I

do!
