Guest guest
Dear folks, this is my first message since I joined the list last week. My Lithuania is the home of an ancient Indo-European language, ancient songs, and natural herbal healing, and known for its amber (if any of you have tried amber oil, the fossilized solar energy from trees that lived millions of years ago). I have not taken any aromatherapy courses, but I have studied on my own for years. Like Sandy, I am homeschooling my child. I learned of this list from a posting in the alt.yoga newsgroup. My fondest interests lie in natural health: for me, yoga, vegetarian and natural organic eating, herbal and holistic naturopathic healing, aromatherapy, the simple life, and spiritual prayer and meditation are all interjoined. I first was introduced to aromatherapeutic theory through The Book of Sufi Healing by Hakim G. M. Chishti, and found that the essences provided by the people associated with him, The Attar Bazaar, were of very high quality. (Once I called him on the phone and he told me he was no longer associated with The Attar Bazaar, but they are still producing the same high quality oils.) One thing I learned from him is that aromatherapy is many centuries old, and was practiced by Avicenna over 1,000 years ago. According to Avicenna, amber oil strengthens the heart. It is applied to the ajña cakra (third eye between eyebrows on forehead). The theory associated with Avicenna and traditional Sufi healers is based on the four elements, the four humors of the human body, made up of hot, cold, moist, dry. Another source of my aromatherapeutic learning has been through trying to understand the theory behind the compunded products from Maharishi Ayur-Ved. This is based on the three dosas: kapha, pitta, vayu. I am still trying to learn more about this. I have found some good results from their blends. Their advice on their web site is not to use simples, because their blends are specially formulated for balance of effects, synergies that do not occur when simples are used alone. So far I only have used aromas on myself; no thought of applying to others, except that I have urged my wife to apply the amber oil to her ajna cakra when she complains of chest pains. (She is sceptical of all the natural remedies I suggest to her!)
