Tisserand calls this 'odour intensity'. But whatever method you find easy is OK. I agree that blending is intuitive, as long as you know the safety precautions first. Likewise choosing oils by dowsing - fine too, I often do this. But you do need to have a full case history first (in case the person is sick and/or on medication), and know the oils and their content.
