Guest guest
I just went to a Seminar on Essential Oils a couple of weekends ago and I was surprised with the idea that people are almost never " allergic " to pure EO's - what they are almost always allergic to is impure and adulterated oils. I would certainly think that perfumes fall into impure and adulterated oils category. Lynne Hi Christa Maria, Welcome to the list ! I was interested to see that you are highly sensitive to fragrances. I am too. However, I have been using essential oils for about five years now with no trouble. I use them in place of perfumes as well as for other purposes. As long as I stick to high quality oils I have no problems. Is this your experience also? I assume from this evidence that it is something the manufacturers use in fragrances and perfumes, rather than the scents themselves , that triggers my allergic reactions. Have any of the others of you had this experience? Bobbi
Guest guest
Actually, that statement is not true at all. People can (and do) react to a variety of compounds found in essential oils, especially those with a history of eczema, etc. Such things have been well documented - see " Essential Oils Safety " by R. Tisserand and T. Balacs as one useful source. Adulterated essential oils MAY cause more problems re skin reactions - it would all depend on the adulterants used. Guest guest
I would agree with Ron. Theoretically, it makes no sense that allergies to " pure " essential oils are non-existent. Oils can be dermally toxic or irritating, sensitizing, and phototoxic. Also, some people cannot tolerate the smell of any strong aroma, and this includes essential oils. Some oils can also trigger asthmatic attacks. " Allergic " is a broad term. Amy > Actually, that statement is not true at all.
