In nature everything is in pairs : Male – Female, Sun – Moon, Day – Night, Black – White, Sweet – Bitter, Good – Bad, Happiness – Sorrow.

Stress too is of two kinds Good Stress (Eustress) and Bad Stress (Distress). You cannot have life without stress. Infact, Zero stress is death.

Good Stress is good for ambition, drive, creativity, goal setting, achievement, progress or personality growth, love and peace.

Bad Stress is harmful and today when I talk of Stress Management, I talk of controlling the bad stress.

Stress Causes

n Asthma

n High BP

n Migraine and other chronic headaches

n Weak eyesight

n Weak libido

n Obesity

n Insomnia

n Diabetes

n Peptic ulcers / acidity

n Overall degeneration

n Heart Problem

n Cancers

n Boredom, depression, suicidal thoughts

The main stress factors are: -

(a) Chemical dependence or intoxication

(b) Deficiency

© Mental stress (or emotional stress as in divorce, family fights)

(d) Physical stress (or pain stress)

(e) Microbial stress (or disease stressors)

(f) Genetic stress (handicap).

Some other stress factors are:-

Family stress

Social stress

Change stress

Work stress

Decision stress

Commuting stress

Phobic stress

Environmental stress

Can you think of any other factor? Can Corruption be one of the stress factors?

Indeed Yes – for Corruption not only harms the corrupt person and his family, but also because of his/her malafide decisions it affects others too.

Stress Signs

1.. Mood and Disposition Signs – worry, over-excitement, insecurity, insomnia, confusion, forgetfulness, nervousness, ill at ease.

2.. Visceral Signs – stomach upset, heart palpitations, profuse sweating, moist hands,

feeling faint or light headed, face hot or flushed, experience of cold chills.

3.. Musculoskeletal Signs – fingers and hands shake or tremble, can’t sit or stand still,

twitches, headaches, stiff muscles, stiff neck, stammering.

NOW LET US LOOK AT THE METHODS TO DE-STRESS

The best of writings have come from people who knew hos

To turn or harness their sufferings and unwing through writings.

n Walking in the Wood/Garden on Green Grass.

n Watching Comedy Shows.

n Massage.

n Good Sleep and autosuggestion or positive programming.

4.. Exercise for minimum 15 minutes daily.

5.. Fast once a week.

ANECDOTE ON STRESS

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it", he said.

"If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem; if I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm; if I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier the glass becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again, when we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down, don't carry it home, you can pick it up tomorrow".
