Guest guest
Second Opinion Health Alert ****************************************************** May 17, 2006 ****************************************************** ****************************************************** Organic Food Is Under Attack Again Once again, the special interests have pressured the government to relax organic standards. Under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's new proposed rules, so-called organic dairy feed lots will be able to import calves from conventional farms. Conventional farms often wean calves on blood, dose them with antibiotics, and feed them genetically engineered grains and slaughterhouse waste. And the USDA, which regulates all meat and dairy products, wants to allow farmers to market the products from these animals as organic. The new rules will also allow over 500 artificial substances in organic processed food without review or prior scrutiny by the Organic Standards Board. Do you want your dairy or meat labeled organic when it could have come from contaminated animals? I sure wouldn't. If we let these rules become law, we will soon see genetically modified foods grown on organic soil labeled organic. The USDA has announced a very short public comment period on these proposed new federal regulations. So you need to speak out immediately!
