Get some extra bucks, go to the junk yard,

and buy a “good” engine out of a totaled car.  Make the necessary

adaptations, attach the engine to a good base (like the motor mounts in a car),

and put a generator on it rather than an alternator.  Generate the electricity

for your home.  Engine would probably be much cheaper than a whole car.  One

could get the technique down pat in an inexpensive way, and find whether it

will work for oneself or not. 

  Then check it out with the work

vehicle.  Could play around with lawn mower engines as well, so long as you

have the battery source in order to separate the water into h and o.
