The news of July 29, 2006, that the Indian government

is bringing a rule such that cough syrups and other

schedule K drugs will be sold over the counter (OTC)

in grocery stores is welcome news. In USA such a

practice is decades old. But I propose why only the

schedule K drugs? We the intelligent, educated, well

read senior citizens deserve better. We should have

the right to self medicate to keep us healthy. I am

not for self-prescription of the prescription

sensitive drugs. More and more drugs should be brought

to the OTC category. Specifically, all the vitamins,

essential amino acids, the omega 3 oils, the evening

primrose oil such as GLA, and minerals--not just

calcium supplements--should be easily available OTC in

grocery stores without doctor's prescription,

especially for senior citizens.

You are happy to see that cough syrups are now under OTC.

The winds are changing now. Everything man made should be pushed away

and God made should be embraced. Health is not in cough syrups,

vitamins or suppliments. Health lies in taking everything in as

nature offered!

Quality food/diet IS the fundamental,

supplements secondary. Certainly, in addition, however, especially

when suffering from a serious illness, better supplements

than " other " medication.

A cheiropractitioner from U.S., let us see what he has to offer:

drnemec(Keith Nemec)

Dear Total Health Sojourner,

Get antioxidants from food, not supplements

People hoping vitamins can protect their hearts need to eat healthy

foods instead of popping pills, according to the American Heart

Association.

A review of various studies on whether supplements can reduce heart

disease risk shows they have virtually no effect, the group said.

" At this time, there is little reason to advise that individuals take

antioxidant supplements to reduce their risk of cardiovascular

disease, "

said Penny Kris-Etherton, a professor of nutrition at Pennsylvania

State University who led the study.

Antioxidants are molecules that work to reduce the damage done to

cells

and to DNA by free radicals -- charged chemical particles found in

the

environment and caused by everyday biological processes.

It is clear that foods rich in antioxidants can reduce the risk of

cancer and heart disease, and scientists have been working to isolate

the particular compounds responsible. Vitamins, such as A an C, are

antioxidants.

But several research studies have shown that people who took

antioxidant

supplements did not have a lower risk of cancer or heart disease, and

one important Finnish study showed that male smokers who took

supplements actually had a higher risk of lung cancer.

Nutritionists and doctors now argue it is probably a combination of

compounds in foods that give the healthy antioxidant benefits.

" The American Heart Association continues to promote a diet rich in

fruits, vegetables, whole grains... to derive antioxidant vitamin

benefits, "

Dr. Keith and Laurie Nemec Comments:

This finding will always be seen. Man's ways are not God's ways and

man's synthetic, man-made vitamin pills are not the same as God-made

nutrients that contain not only organic vitamins, but minerals,

phythochemicals, antioxidants and all the essential cofactors to make

it

all work together in the body as the perfect symphony we call life.

Let us explain the difference between organic food and synthetic

sources

for our vitamins. In a Swedish study, two groups of silver foxes were

fed identical diets, except the first group was given synthetic B

vitamins while the second group was given brewer's yeast and other

natural foods, which is very high in naturally occurring B vitamins.

The

foxes in the first group, given synthetic vitamins, failed to grow,

had

extremely poor fur and developed many diseases. The second group,

given

the whole-food form of vitamin, grew normally, had beautiful fur and

maintained good health.

Paavo Airola, Ph.D., further states, " We must keep in mind that in

nature vitamins are never isolated. They are always present in the

form

of vitamin complexes. There are 24 known factors in Vitamin C-complex.

There are 22 known B-vitamin factors. When you take natural vitamins -

-

like in the form of rose hips, brewer's yeast or vegetable oil -- you

are getting all the vitamins and vitamin-like factors that naturally

occur in these foods. That is, you're getting all those vitamins that

are already discovered as well as those that are not yet

discovered. "

Get your vitamins and minerals from living/raw plant based food and

you

will not only survive but thrive. As Hippocrates the father of

medicine said " Let your food be your medicine " .
