Readers Comments to an article: http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article1804287.ece The evidence of parents that the MMR vaccine was deeply implicated in their child's withdrawal into autism is both overwhelming and compelling. This evidence continues to be ignored by the medical establishment. Since 1998 The Medical Research Council has refused to fund the clinical examination of even one child who developed bowel disease and autism following MMR! Considering the importance of vaccine safety and the public interest in this issue this omission is both significant and suspect. Autism Treatment Trust, a clinic in

Edinburgh, has now comprehensively tested over 200 autistic children. Painful bowel inflammation is common. The MMR vaccine is identified as the trigger leading to withdrawal by many parents. Similar facts are emerging worldwide. The stance taken by Drs Collins and Bedford is frankly shameful and is resulting in innocent children being refused necessary treatment and relief from pain. Propaganda and scaremongering should have no place in child health. Bill Welsh, Edinburgh, ------------------------------- You are right - few people, including myself, remember the dangers

of measles. But I do remember, all too well, the devastation of regressive autism. This is because my son Oliver regresed into autism after his single-measles vaccination when he was age one year, then regressed much more severely, and permanently, when he had MMR at the age of four. Be warned - when this happens to your child, you will find that no-one wants to know, and that all the authorities will do is to claim that "the benefits outweigh the risks". Not for Oliver they don't. David Thrower, Warrington, United Kingdom --- Thank you for the little pep-talk: "Competing interests: DE and HB have in the past received funding from vaccine manufacturers

Wyeth,Aventis Pasteur MSD,and GlaxoSmith-Kline to attend symposiums and conduct research. " http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/329/7473/1049 John Stone, London, UK - Does my child need the MMR? '..A huge amount of research worldwide has overwhelmingly confirmed the safety of the MMR vaccine...' says Dr Jane Collins and Dr Helen Bedford. This 'huge amount of research worldwide' is research based on epidemiological studies, that is, studies of data. The main

flaw with this is the adverse event surveillance system, the procedure meant to collect details on serious side effects of vaccines, picks up only about 10% of serious problems following vaccinations. Unless the data collection is accurate the study of data will be meaningless and dishonest. It is dangerous and foolhardy to state that the MMR vaccine has been overwhelmingly confirmed as safe when the procedure and data is so inadequate. The collection of data on adverse reactions is similar in other countries so the problem is compounded. Therefore I believe the statement by Dr Collins and Dr Bedford is misleading as they have no idea of the real statistical risk of a reaction to the MMR. Parents should be aware of doctors who promote the MMR vaccine on one hand without taking any responsibility for the damage caused by their endorsement on the other. 'Scare stories raised by one doctor in the late 90s..' is also a complete misinterpretation of the facts. Parents

started to give first hand witness accounts of their children's serious adverse reactions shortly after the MMR vaccination was introduced into the childhood vaccination programme in 1988. This led to the Chief Medical Officer's announcement in September 1992 of the complete withdrawal of two of the three brands of MMR following an unacceptably high number of reports of mumps meningitis. Meningitis - inflammation of the brain - can lead to a number of serious long term problems including brain damage, epilepsy, deafness and even death. Problems continued to be reported to JABS ( a support group for parents of vaccine damage children) with the replacement brands of MMR. Only last year two seventeen month old infants died 10 days after MMR vaccination. The Government accepts vaccine damage and has made awards to a number of families under the Vaccine Damage Payment Act of 1979 but the injury or death can only be investigated by the Vaccine Damage Payment Unit once

the child has passed his or her second birthday. These two babies didn't make it to their second birthday therefore the incidents didn't get logged into the data for investigation. 'Does my child need the MMR?' Please consider this question very carefully. The clinic leaflet given to me when my son had an MMR vaccine had the headline: 'Give your child something you never had'. That is exactly what happened. It turned out to be brain damage and epilepsy. Jackie Fletcher JABS National Coordinator Jackie Fletcher, Warrington, England US: 1 in 150 children has AutismUS: 1 in 6 children suffers a developmental disorderNew Jersey: 1 in 94 has Autism UK: 1 in 86 has Autism

China : Over 20 lakh autistic children, India : No authentic figures, expected one crore+ (1 in 250) AUTISM IS NOTHING BUT MERCURY POISONING. THERE IS MERCURY IN VACCINES!!
