Bananas was CORRECT WAY

Thanks for the details - when I attended lectures by Mischio Kushi I remember he did not classify banana as a fruit - thats what I based my comment on ..........

 

My mother always included banana in her curries when she made them, personally I tend not to eat bananas, never eat Mac's and have not eaten pizza for 3 years - before then maybe one every 5 years lol

Technically the banana is a fruit. It is in the wild, the result of pollination, and a way of sexual reproduction. Where male and female genes come together that is a fruit.

 

Now the way of growing bananas is through tissue culture, or farmers just propogate the suckers from the base of the plant.

 

Herb refers to the habit of the plant. The banana is not woody like the apple, which is a tree.

 

What part of the plant is eaten? When we use leaves of basil and coriander we call them herbs.

 

The banana has a lot of sugar, good sugars, but if stuck behind slowly digesting foods such as meat and grain, they do produce fermentation and digestive difficulties.

 

In traditionally served meals, a piece of banana and a spoonful of sugar is placed first on the leaf or plate. Ayurveda suggests we use all six flavours in a meal. I think the banana is eaten first, and the meal ends with payasam or rice pudding.

 

Also we must think of what we eat these day. A cheese pizza or Mac followed by banana is disaster!

My guess is that probably one should not take banana after a heavy meal or a non-vegetarian meal. But banana may help if taken after a light vegetarian meal like what a yogi takes. Being very easily digestible it may, in fact, help in the movement of the bowels. Any comments? Also there are recipes for curries where raw banana is used. Its the sugar content that leads to fermentation, gas and bloating with discomfort and acidity. Raw bananas cooked with spices are ok. Qualify as veges. BUT I love undiya with a top layer of sweet bananas! Guess the ajwain and turmeric help with the digestion. Also this is a winter dish so I guess more digestible. Dried banana powder is good for babies and children -- helps to correct bowel imbalances.
