Guest guest
Dear Selma, Medicines containing Gold compounds and Panchkarma are more useful than just the use of herbs. Also plenty of cow's ghee or medicated ghees are to be used if not contra-indicated.Gold and Cow's ghee are considered to be MEDHYA ie. working on Intellect and cognitive functions of brain. Guest guest
Selma Turmeric is a very important herb in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. It was considered a detoxifying herb for the whole body. It is used as a digestive aid and treatment for fever, infections, dysentery, arthritis, jaundice and other liver and gallbladder problems, stopping bleeding, treat chest congestion and menstrual discomforts. It exhibits wide range of therapeutic effects. It protects against free radical damage because it is a strong antioxidant. Second, it reduces inflammation. It accomplishes this by reducing histamine levels and possibly by increasing production of natural cortisone by the adrenals There are a number of studies going on on use of turmeric in alzhemier disease. Since it is very strong anti-oxidant, it can deccelerate oxidative damage. It is currently being further evaluated for its anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic properties. See some message on its protection against radiation damage. But Indian ayurvedists knew about this long back, hence it is recomended in many formulations for blood purifications, chiefly aimed at cancers and leukemia. It protects the liver from a number of toxic compounds. Due to its protective effect on liver tissue exposed to liver damaging drugs, it had been traditionally used for liver ailments e.g. Cirrhosis caused by consuming alcohol. It has been shown to reduce platelets from clumping together, which in turn, improves circulation and helps protect against atherosclerosis. Its cancer-preventing effects through curcumin are recently established. It is alterative, antheimintic, antibacterial, antibiotic, aromatic, carminative, stimulant, tonic, vulnerary. The conditions of use has a wide spectrum incuding anemia, atherosclerosis, bursitis, Chron's Disease, diabetes, edema, migraine, hemorrhoids, hepatitis, hysteria, indigestion, inflammations of all types, inflammatory bowel syndrome, jaundice, psoriasis, Rheumatoid arthritis, skin disorders, urinary diseases, wound and bruise healing. In India, turmeric is used for the treatment of anorexia, cough, diabetic wounds, and sinusitis. Sprinkle a bit of turmeric on cuts and scrapes after they have been thoroughly washed, gives antibacterial action, will prevent the bacterial wound infections. Turmeric helps stimulate the flow of bile, which helps digest fats. Turmeric fights protozoans promoting its traditional use in treating dysentery. Its action even takes care of depression. Like trifla, turmeric being the most used herb in ayurveda, there are nearly 239 messages existing in the archives of this list today, and they cover everything from common cold to cancer, wound to depression. These are contributions from various members; but your message is the first dealing with alzheimer. What is remarkable about your approach is Turmeric dose is excessive. This herb is so powerful, that out of 239 messages, only one message message by Todd remarks the knowledge of some herbalist recommending a dose 2-3 tsp 3 times a day, while yours is 3-4 tbsp everyday. IN most of the posts, 1 tsp 2-3 times a day is maximum dose. Though the herb is not damaging, suppress/excess of anything brings in Vata, as per ayurveda guidelines. Anticlotting properties which this herb causes, may cause too much thinning and excess bleeding! Taking with milk 2-3 times a day is appropriate, but author feels that dose should be limited to 1 tsp or about 2-3 grams at a time only. When 2 pinches is daily dose in food, the scale of the dose taken by your mother is too high. Often, the long term effect may be known after months, at which time, correcting the situation may become difficult. This author suggests two more formulations as a supportive therapy. 1 Brahmi Ghrutam 1/2 - 1 tsp at breakfast time and bedtime (start with smaller dose and gradually shift to larger) 2. Smrutisagar Ras 2 - 2 tab taken along with Brahmi Ghrutam As Dr Muzumdar remarked Cow ghee (Ghrutam) is Medhya medicine and is used in Brahmi Ghrutam. Smrutisagar ras has been used by this author in controlling this condition. However, these medications should be taken under supervision and progress can be evaluated at a frequency not less than 6-8 weeks. ayurveda , " selmakaradurak " <skaradurak wrote: > My mother is suffering from Alzhemeir's disase for the last 2 years. > Although it is still in early stages but I know that this ilness > progress regardless of medicine she is currently taking. > > I've heard that turmeric is very good for brain thus alzhemeir's. > Therefore I am giving my mother 3 to 4 table spoon of turmeric > dissolved in hot milk everyday.
