This oil+seeds mixture is to be kept in sunlight in which vessel? glass/steel/…? Best results if you use a glass bottle having dark green color. Such bottles one gets when he buys extra virgin quality olive oil. In case you do not get such a bottle, use ordinary glass bottle. One more thing not covered in message 1155 is that if bottle is allowed to absorb moon light also, the oil is imparted the cooling property too! > 2. To be kept closed airtight or open? In between the two extremes. keep slightly loose lid over the bottle. Let evaporated moisture escape. > 3. What exactly is the effect? I have read about soaking fenugreek seeds in water but not in oil. Oil absorbs the medicine in fenugreek in the same manner as sauting oil absorbs fenugreek, cumeen, asfoetida molecules. The fenugreek molecules what they do to the skin, blood etc is discussed in what follows. Author takes it as an opportunity to devote one full post to fenugreek, the wonder herb. Fenugreek is a very important herb in ayurveda, its usage cover a wide spectrum. It is a galactogue(#5415,5550), you would have had it through mothers milk, if she would have taken it during nursing period. It is a leading herb to reduce insulin resistance(#8414,9076). It is used in most anti-diabetic medication(#3036) as also its soaked water is taken by women suffering from PCOS, menstrual problems. It is also anti-vata herb, used post-partum to return the reproductive system and principally uterus to shape. It is also useful while passing through menopause, to keep joint pains, muscle pains in check, and to keep blood circulation well. Laddus made from fenugreek are eaten to keep obesity, arterial lipid deposits, (#2027,7270) and Vata problems such back pain(3042,5479) in control. 1 tbsp ground fenugreek seed taken in the diet daily can reduce cholesterol. Varicose veins can be cured (#5512). Fenugrrek seeds is also used in teenage depression along with aloe vera (#1677) It is a great ama burner(#6220), making digestion easier, hence used in sauting vegetables and other preparation. The most popular south Indian dosa becomes very crisp and easy to digest if fenugreek seeds are soaked and ground with batter. Use of fenugreek in Dandruff and for relieving itching, aiding hair growth is due to its promoting better circulation by opening channels of the body and support the flushing of toxins via the skin (#635), giving cooling property and reducing insulin resistance. 8 tsps of seed presoaked in 4 cups cold water for 4 hours, then boil for 2 minutes, strain and drink 1 cup a day to ease hay fever attacks. Fenugreek tea as an excellent relief for colic and fever in children. Fenugrek seeds have been used for labor induction, aiding digestion, and as a general tonic to improve metabolism and health. Chinese used it to reduce edema of legs. It has prowess in tackling stomach upset, swelling (inflammation) of the upper air passages or throat, appetite, for softening the stool. It also has been used as a gargle to relieve sore throat, and as an external dressing for swelling (local inflammation). Or have you published a book of these posts? With nearly 800 post on ayurveda, and 500 on other specialized lists related to specific diseases or patients, this has not been possible. Most posts were written on the spur of the moment, and sometimes off-list consultations were converted to posts, so that benifits are shared by a wider community. It is left to students/benifitted members to collect the posts together into a file and use. It may be noted that none of the posts are copyrighted or exclusive property..use them, get benifits and share with othres! The spirits of ancient and previous generation vaidyas provided enough motivation to share. And querries after querry and a little warm appreciation by members kept driving the sharing mood. A serious student of ayurveda should collect and consolidate the knowledge in brain, not on PC. Brain provides a much better " Google " the program with cognitive intelligence. The viruses in this super programme are jealousy, selfishness and commercial motive!
Guest guest
Hello Dr. Bhate: Thank you very much again for such a detailed answer. I think with your suggestions, many students/members would start gathering and organizing these valuable posts by you and the other experts. We cannot afford to lose this!! Thanks again.
