Guest guest
Amrutha, The first surprise was having recommended black salt, since in recent " gas and constipation " titled querry by Swatzilina author did not recommend any such quick remedy. After search, it was message 2903, an excerpt reproduced here: <Asfoetida, Ajwain and black salt, take each 5 gms, grind them together, add in a pearl of garlic and bind into small pea sized tablets. Two tablets when taken thrice a day is an adult dose to cure indigestion, stomach pain, bloating. They are digestion aids also.> ... part of Message No. 2903 Gas, stomach pain as a result of bloating (most common for women suffering from PCOS) is relieved rapidly by these tablets. These tablets are not helpful and contraindicated if there is ulceration in the intestines. That is the reason, patients should not read these posts as a " search symptoms and find remedy " database look up. The amount of garlic to be added should be sufficient to give adequate binding resin. While Latin and English name is Black salt ( " Kochsalz " in Geraman, " kala namak " or " sanchal " in Hindi as well as sankrit, " Krishna Lavan " " sauvarchala " also other names in sanskrit [latter name may be the root giving common name sanchar], " sanchar " in Gujarathi, " Padelon " or " Kale Mith " in Marathi ) is an unrefined mineral salt having pinkish gray color. It has a strong sulfuric flavor. Black salt is mined in India and is used extensively in Indian cuisine as a condiment or added to chaats, chutneys, salads where curd is used as well, farsan and many other savory Indian snacks. Chaat masala, an Indian spice blend, is dependent upon black salt for its characteristic aroma and flavor. In northern India at every street corner and North Indian hotels in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, you will get Panipuri whose characteristic flavor comes from Cumeen, coriander, mint and black salt. Chemically, black salt is almost pure sodium chloride, with iron and trace minerals. Black salt is considered a cooling spice in ayurvedic medicine and is used as a laxative and digestive aid. It is traditionally considered the healthiest form of salt in ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine uses this salt as a laxative and a digestive. It is also considered an appetizer. It gets the salivary and digestive juices flowing. Also useful in flatulence, colic, dyspepsia, indigestion, bowel complaints, etc. It is also believed to relieve intestinal gas and heartburn. It is sometimes used by people with high blood pressure or on low-salt diets because it is lower in sodium and purportedly does not increase sodium content in the blood. According to traditional healers in M.P., India, Fresh coriander juice with black salt is capable of suppressing or eliminating the few harmful effects of coriander when coriander is taken large dosage. The knowledge of traditional healers you will not find in reference literatures. But they give it generously to Vaidyas. It can be used for acute or chronic constipation. Also in constipation associated with piles & fissures. Helps in regularising natural bowel movement. ... Despite this author did not recommend it while replying " Gas and constipation " querry by Swatzilina, the reasons for which are stated by Dr. Prerak Shah. Several Gujarathi businessmen (Ahmedabad, Mumbai) return home late night, have very leisurely, tasy, spicy dinner followed by dessert or ice-cream and go to bed within 20 minutes withought forgetting to take some such pills sold under name " Pachan Vati " , " Gashar Vati " " Hazmola " etc. They may not face any immediate trouble but slowly they march to become a diabetic or CAD patient soon, as a result of lifestyle driven visceral obesity. The routine consumption of such digestive aids and purgatives to clean the bowels affects the tone of the intestines and ultimately leads to more severe constipation, which persists throughout life. Frequent use of digestive aids also causes exhaustion of cells producing gastric and pancreatic juices (enzymes). You should not use purgatives but increase the fluid intake, fruits like prunes, raisins, banana, figs and vegetables and whole grain products. The habitual use of such products leads to increasing constipation as the natural reflexes are not allowed to act. Increase the fibre content of your diet by consuming larger quantity of whole grain cereals, green leafy vegetables, pulses etc. Leafy vegetables like cabbage, spinach, carrots, and radish are also good for regular bowel habit. Fresh fruits are of great value in overcoming this condition since it contains roughage in the form of cellulose. Bananas, dried fruits like prunes, figs, raisins, dates, apricots are very use full. Vitamin B complex from buttermilk and minerals including potassium from vegetable soups, oral potassium salts (black salt) and juices help to prevent the constipation. Guest guest
Dear Shirish , Thanks for the additional information, and also the needful information about how our digestive system devlops a pattern with intake of such laxatives and purgatives. Well to be honest , i try to avoid laxatives and purgatives , and that is why i have become more tolerant to all the possible symtomps. But they sometimes get on to you. I have started yoga since some time, hope it shows some results from there too. well i have already made a preperation of ajwain, cumin, black salt , dalchini, fennel. which i plan to take for some days. i wil also start the remedies u gave of yogurt and lemon . I had one doubt , how much leafy vegetables ( caabage, cellary, cauliflower, spianch) and salad one should eat in such symptoms. These fibres really dont help me a lot at times i feel. I do eat papaya and seasonal fruits. Do u think ripe bananas are good? Any fruits u suggest particularly for increasing fibres in my diet. How is cocunut water for the given symtomps? Guest guest
Dr Bhate, Thank you for the great explanation abt black salt. I was actually thinking of putting the suggested mixture into a small capsule & give my kids one, right after they eat some tough foods such as pizza at parties, (may be twice or thrice a month?!) - not on a regular basis. Because, they both are allegic to milk they end up in stomach pains at times). I understand that Asfoetida and Ajwain are very good ( & harmless) for digestion & so I was thinking of black salt too be something similar. I hope that would be alright, please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you! Amrutha
Guest guest
Amrutha Go ahead, only adjust the dose to 50% for children. Asfoetida, castor oil, ajwain, cumeen seeds, garlic, turmeric, dil seeds, fennel seeds, vidanga seeds are being used since the time babies are weaned. Babies do not have matured immune system (good mucosal linings) as long as they are on mothers milk (100% unadulterated raw milk containing friendly probiotics) and her diet is unadulterated+compatible to her constitution. But as soon as they are weaned, the immature immune system starts developing mucosal linings. But drugs and vaccines, industrial milk+meat, GM food, pesticides and plastics have changed the picture; with babies having milk allergies, eczema, frequent cough/cold/breathing difficulties and ASD/ADHD/Autism in extreme cases. Immune system, which would have developed in normal course of time, gets corrupted by modern poisons and then these herbs come to help. ayurveda , " amrutha_naveen " <amrutha_naveen wrote: > I was actually thinking of putting the suggested mixture into a small capsule & give my > kids one, right after they eat some tough foods such as pizza at parties, (may be twice or > thrice a month?!) - not on a regular basis.
