Homeopathy and Ayurveda

Just for your information here folks, Homeopathy and Ayurveda should

not be used simultaneously… Homeopathy works on the premises that " like

increase like " . Whereas in Ayurveda " opposites balance " … Therefore one

counteracting or canceling out the other… To use them simultaneously

confuses the intellect of the body and can make follow-up diagnoses

even harder or impossible. On the other hand I have had success using

Homeopathy first to get the suffering under control and then

introducing herbs after a break from the Homeopathy… Just my two

cents!

To respectfully disagree,

I have been using both simultaneously for 10 years -- I get better and better.

IMHO, eating correctly for your dosha can only strengthen your constitution. If

you know your homeopathic constitutional type, it can help boost also. I also

take the tonic Ayurvedic herbs. True health is reaching your full potential--how

many people truly do that?

Homeopathy and Ayurveda are the two best methods for reaching your full

potential.

Hi Katy… There is no doubt there can be exceptions to the rule, but in

general it is not a good idea to mix them… A teacher of mine once

said, " that everything in nature is medicine to someone, but nothing in

nature is medicine to everyone " … and then there is the placebo effect,

but that's another subject.

Is there any mention of homeopathy type methods in ayurveda?

Have any sages said that we can heal with the essences of poisons or plants

minerals and animals?

I am really interested to konw if homeopathy theory is in ayurveda anywhere?

Hi Mandakini... Homeopathy is only a few hundreds old... here is a

little blip on it!

The Founder of Homeopathy

Homeopathy's roots emerge from the findings, teachings and writings

of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). Hahnemann graduated from

medical school in 1779 and started his own medical practice. He soon

began his first homeopathic experiments in 1790, as a result of his

disillusionment with such common medical practices of the day as

purging, bloodletting, and the use of toxic chemicals.

Dear Mandakini,

Madhav Nidan, a famous book in Ayurveda on disease diagnosis gives the following

reference -

'' Hetu Vyaadhi Viparyasta Viparyastaarthakaarina, Anna Aushadha Vihaaraanaam

Upayoga Sukhavaha, Upashaya Tat ........''

Meaning :- Hetu = cause of disease, Vyaadhi = disease, Viparyasta = opposite,

Viparyastaarthakaarina = opposite to opposite ie. similar, Anna = food, Aushadha

= medicine, Vihar = daily activities, Upayoga = use,Sukhaavaha = for purpose of

relief from discomfort, Upashaya = relief / cure.

Various combinations of these factors gives the totality of Ayurvedic view

towards treatment modalities.

So Viparyasta Aushadha is the basis of Allopathy ie opposite therapy AND

Viparyastaarthakaari Aushadha is the basis of Homoeopathy ie similar therapy ie

similia similibus curanter.

Isn't it interesting to know that Ayurvedic science is so much vast and all

pervasive or is it the MOTHER of all medical sciences?

Dear Mandakini,

There are a few references which you may go through.

Hetu vyadhi vipareeta artha kaari chikitsa in the upashaya context.

1. Charaka Nidana 1/10 Chakrapani Datta Teeka

2. Astanga Sangraha Sutra 12

3. Astanga Hridaya Nidana 1/6 Arunadatta Teeka & Hemadri Teeka

One of the main principles of Homoeopathy has been discussed here concisely.

I know about the origin of homeopathy in Germany, but I want to know if in

ayurveda anyone has dilluted plant mineral or animal parts in water and used the

essence for healing.

We can find the origins of so many modalities of healing in ayurveda - masage

therapy, rystal, accupressure etc, I just want to know is homeopathy also having

roots in ayurveda.
