Guest guest
Hi! I am just beginning to learn about ayurveda through books and the web. What brings me to it is a search for relief from chronic headaches and neck pain due to stress/tension in the neck area. I am not happy with typical dr. advice to take pain pills. I am starting accupuncture and after 4 treatments not sure I can tell a difference yet, I am scheduled for 4 more and then I guess I will see. I live in the Arlington/Ft Worth, Texas area and wonder if anyone on this list might know of an ayurvedic center, practioner, etc. that could advice me on treatments for headaches. It is hard to learn everything from just books! Any advice to a beginner searching for better health would be appreciated! Cindy
Guest guest
Hi Cindy... Any Ayurvedic specialist is going to tell you to get rid of what 's causing the stress. Job, husband, anything else is just a Band-Aid. Have you tried taking mediation seriously? If nothing else it will open your mind up to the solution. ... Noel . Guest guest
Hello Noel and thank you for your reply. I would like to start learning to meditate, I purchased a DVD and am trying to work with that to start. Do you have any advice on a better approach? Not to be facetious but I am not sure it is ever possible to get rid off all the things in your life that might cause you stress, but I am thinking that it must be in the way you approach these things that creates the stress in the first place, if that makes sense. What I am trying to learn to do is just that, how to create a " new attiditude " I guess. I am also interested in looking at dietary choices and seeing if making some changes would make me feel better. Guest guest
Hello Cindy, I highly recommend that you read The Astonishing Power of Emotions. Run, don't walk to the bookstore! Meditation and yoga are fantastic. I've been a TM meditator for many years. Obviously, as an Ayurvedic chef, food and diet is important to me. But the real bottom line is how you feel about the choices you make every second. Are you happy? Are you in-synch with your source energy? Or is there resistance which is creating discomfort? The book comes with a CD that is about an hour long. It's a synopsis of the book, and will quickly get you on track to a happy, healthy life. I'm so not kidding! Guest guest
Hi Cindy… The mind is like a CB radio… It has a tuning band, a sending unit, and a receiving unit. In order to receive from a specific signal you have to tune into that signal. Also to receive you have to stop sending. The mind is the same… You have to tune into God/universe or what other name you want to put on your creator; and then you have to stop send [or thinking]… It is like anything else in life that it takes practice. After a little while with practice you will be amazed at all the answers that come into mind; every question you have or have ever had will be answered… Yes even the question you thought there were no answers for… Meditation is the greatest gift that anyone can ever have, and only a small percent of the population takes advantage of it. As you continue to meditate the mind starts to open up, and you began to recognize divine orchestration, and you realize that everything is as it should be, and that then and only then will all stress leave you. As far as your diet goes you need to find an Ayurvedic specialist in your area and find out what your Prakriti and Vikriti is so you can put together a diet… Noel
Guest guest
Patti, thank you for this recommendation, I am definately going to ck it out. I am also starting a yoga class tonite and I know that will help. I have an MRI this morning, the neck/back xray shows mild deg. arthritis in the neck. NOt sure if that can cause the headaches, after I see the MRI I will decide if a chiropractor might help. I am really interested in the TM med. tho, can you tell me how you learned it? How does one get in synch with " source energy " , to me this is God? I am trying to put alot of concepts together here! Cindy __________________ Meditation and yoga are fantastic.
