Guest guest
Hi Folks, My name is Sujatha and I have a 5-year old boy. My son is coming down with a cold. Since he doesn't talk much, I have to always be alert and keep an eye on him. But I can never tell till he gets a cold and his nose starts running. The only other symptom is he won't sleep well the night before. So I was expecting this COLD. Now if you guys could help me with stuff to give him(homepathic or ayurvedic) and also prevent ear infection, it would be great. He gets seizures when his fever shoots up. So I really have to watch him next few days. And he wants to be carried all the time! By the end of the whole thing, I fall sick because of lack of sleep and not eating right! He has loose motions with most Antibiotics. So after a cold, I have to deal with stomach issues! So if there is any preventive stuff/home remedies that I can do for nasal decongestion, fever control and something to boost his immune please let me know. I live in the US and lately they have pulled out so many over the counter cold and cough medications, it is hard to know which one is really good for you! thanks a ton, Sujatha

Guest guest
Frequent antibiotics have caused reduced digestion (intestinal flora, liver, pancratic juices) causing build up of toxins, which body tries to flush out in the form of mucous, nasal water. This we term cold. this sludge easily harbours pathogens, body tries to burn them in fever. and we try pills to suppress fever! It should really run through, and if it goes beyond 103 deg farenheit, then put salt water soaks on his forehead. these prevent seizure. The most powerful herb to boost immunity in winter is provided by God in this season only. One Fresh Aamla fruit juice with honey 1 tsp early morning empty stomach, once per day. In case fresh aamla not available, buy powder from online. 1 tsp powder with 1 tsp honey, empty stomach morning and evening around sunset time. This takes care of fevers, skin rashes, cold, nasal congestion etc. This may look like an utopia, but it is true, provided his diet is simple, healthy. Provide him what you were eating at his age and that is healthy diet. Warm, home cooked, minimum processed, vegetables, fruits, as offered by mother nature. warm soupes with spices like cumeen, coriander, black pepper, sea salt etc. If aamla powder is also difficult to get, lemon juice is another alternative, but it may exacerbate the symptoms for 2-3 days, do not worry in that case. ________________________________ My name is Sujatha and I have a 5-year old boy. Guest guest
Mrs Sujata Vaidya Bhate has suggested a correct medicines. I would like to add my views in this topic. According to Ayurveda when ever there is a weaknesses in Sapta dhatu [ namly Rasa, Rakta, Mansa,Meda, Asthi, Majja and Shukra]the pathology gets rooted within it. Hence to due to weakness in Mansa dhatu your child is not able to fight cold and change in whether. I would like to suggest to give her a one teaspoonful of powder of non salty Dry fruits with a pinch of black peper + honey ones a day at morning between 6 to 7am, empty stomach and then for one hour no food should be given. This will strengthen his Mansa dhatu. Vaidya Upadhye www.astrotreat.blogspot.com www.astroayurvedalogy.com ________________________________ My name is Sujatha and I have a 5-year old boy. Guest guest
dear sujatha, u already recieved many answers regarding cold as far as i know, vamana is best to be done when the first signs come up. this is the simplified version. for example, when u noticed that he does not sleep well because he does not breath well (his nostrils are not totaly permeable), next morning give him (if possible) half liter of warm water with half spoon of salt and then keep him bent 90 degrees over (like bath tab or other basin or whatever u think of) and help him vomit. normaly this high concentration of salt will make him vomit, but he can put 2 fingers through his throat or take some plants like acorus calamus 5 grams which will make him do it. after, he can clean his nostrils every morning and evening with warm salty water or better his urine if he is not taking antibiotics. if he already was catching a cold, big amounts of garlic in his diet will help. also vitamin c from fresh lemon juice with ginger and honney it's good. ecqhinaceea 2 weeks will stimulatte his T lymphocites (more than 2 weeks it was proved by some test that it is inhibiting them ). i am more concerned by his seizures. i know that between 2 and 5 years old fever seizures are considered kind of normal, but anyway this shows a delay in maturation of his nervouse system and a high sensibility of this one. so, when he is not cold, u might help him develope better by giving him a mixture of aswagandha, jatamansi, gotu kola, brahmi, and also include lots of nuts in his diet. the nuts have big amounts of essential fat acids necessary for nervouse system and also iodum. good health for your kid _______________________________ My name is Sujatha and I have a 5-year old boy. Guest guest
dear crii, Vaman, which is one of the procedures in panchkarma, is generally not advised in children below the age of 8 years. Even if it is to be done, then it should be under ayurvedic doctor's supervision and not as a domestic affair. Dr.D.B.Muzumdar M.D.Ayurveda-Medicine (Mumbai-India) __ as far as i know, vamana is best to be done when the first signs come up. this is the simplified version.
