Guest guest
AVS is famous as one of the most important Ayurvedic institutions in the world - it has held a premier place in Ayurveda for many years. It is a cheritable orginazation run at a very high level of professionalism. People come from all over the world to receive treatment there. Famous people including Prime Ministers have gone there. The problem is that it is too famous making it difficult to get in there. You must book many months in advance and during the winter season many people book as much as one year ahead. Also I recommend that if you can afford it bring your own cook since the number one weak point at AVS is diet is not taken care of properly. This is true in many Ayurvedic medical centers in Kerala. Many patients eat in the workers canteen which has good Kerala meals but this food is not good for patients. Most of the rich people who go there bring their own cooks. This place is also cheaper than most of the Kerala hospitals. Most of the institutions maintained by the famous families have become rediculously expensive for foreigners. They have a two level pricing system with the charges for foreigners being out of hand. Several of the most famous institutions have failed in their Ayurvedic centers because of this. Kerala Ayurveda Pharmacy opened a center at Kappad Beach that failed simply because the cost was too much. Most of these people do not understand who the patient base is for Ayurvedic services. This trend of charging foreigners many times more than the Indians has harmed Ayurveda more than any other thing, I have heard complaints on this point many times. One can see this in the selling of medicines in the Internet, it is not unusual to see huge mark-ups on medicines that can be bought in India for a fraction of the cost. This is sad to me. If a company thinks it is necessary to charge more for the handling of foreign orders then simply charge a handling fee, but to up the price to an outrageous level on each product is insulting to the patients. A friend recently told me she felt that Ayurveda is a cheating business because of her experiences with several Indian companies. This kind of thing is going to drive Ayurveda into a hole and give a bad impression around the world. AVS is not run according to this cheating model. Good luck; Liz
Guest guest
Yes, this is true - same for yoga - prices for foreigners are very high. Unaffordable really unless one is rich. The other things I find upsetting is that standard companies (I am afraid to mention the name!) are giving poor quality herbs with lots of aditives. Why is this? Where can we get good quality herbs? Todd? Where? I found that circle of health has good herbs. But am also looking for good companies who offer reasonalbe wholesale prices to practitioners and who have no additives. When we make lehyam with ghee or honey or pills what is the need for additives? This is really upsetting to me. A friend brought me a sample of the bramhi that I suggested she take in capsule from ig company and when I opened the capsule and tasted the herb all I could taste was chemical and when I read the bottle an additive was listed. Already the capsule is so small - how can we mix herbs with chemicals and expect people to get the required amount and how can we give to a person something that they are taking on faith that will be good for them and have chemicals in iit? _____________ This place is also cheaper than most of the Kerala hospitals. Most of the institutions maintained by the famous families have become rediculously expensive for foreigners. They have a two level pricing system with the charges for foreigners being out of hand.
