I got hysterctomy done in June 2007 from then onwards my BP has gone up. Earlier to surgery it was little high and it was under control and then I got operated. But now it is very high even if I take medicine also like 190/110, 150/100 constantly. Also I after the surgery I am suffering with hyperacidity. HI Vanaja Let your case be eye opener to many, who are tempted to hysterectomy after suffering menorrhagia and/or endometriosis for a long time. There are special formums on the net where ladies have discussed heightened sufferings thereafter. Before we discuss your problem, a little indtroduction to the issue would be appropriate. " I have always been interested with Ayurveda for the sole reason that it dwells and tries to resolve the root cause than the symptom which makes a lot of sense. Though allopathy does provide immediate cures I guess over the long run it would always help to switch over to Ayur/Homeo therapies. Limited marketing and long durations for Ayurveda and Homeopathy probably limit the number of people walking this path. Would you think that Vata/Pitta/Kapha, Heat/Cold is an analysis at a subtler level, a level that we probably are too rugged to be analysed/cured with due to current day habits of eating fatty foods, heavy muscle building, aggressive thinking, stress etc and if the body system is to be turned mild before expecting any of the cures to work (effectively). However I wonder at times if all health issues are related to a person' thinking pattern and hence the Vata/Pitta/Kapha doshas. Do you think that changes to thinking process should be the ultimate cure or that the herbs releated to Ayurveda bring about the required change to the mental state/balance. I am actually trying to understand if it's just the chemical composition of the herb that brings about the cure or if it's more than that. Please do let me know your comments, " These are the querries from an ayurveda student cum practitioner in west. Author thought it appropriate to bring the discussion to the board, so that all would express their opinion and add to the collective knowledge. Let us look at an excerpt from message#12770 " But can any sane person continue to insist that the mind, the environment, and social circumstances do not directly influence our physiology or, worse still, insist that a hierarchical reality above the physical plane does not exist at all? " Research can not reveal the width and depth of side effects of surgeries. Colon and uterus are most important seats of Vata and any surgery to these organs aggravates Vata, according to the accepted principles. Any sudden change aggravates Vata. The jet lag is a familiar example, see how it disturbs circadian rhythm. Uterus and ovaries represent a lot to women. The loss of any of these represents a great damage to them and traumatic shock brings in Vata. Dr Hamer proposed a theory which he prove with the help of MRI reports. Trauma produces a DHS in the brain and that causes some disease to appear. Be it cancer, diabetes or auto-immune disorder, the root cause is traumatic shock which translates to tumor or misbehaviour of imune system cells. Author has discussed in past how the state of the disease is often produced by the food and environment around a person. Author feels that our thoughts/emotions are the results of the food and our environment and they often drive the disease to greater height. Summing up the previous discussion, author would state that your hypertension is the side effect of hysterectomy. Your endocrinal gland delicate balance is disturbed and reduced hormones may be causing contraction of arteries, leading to hypertension. In many ladies in childbearing ages, the reduced hormones reduce periods and cause short breath, angina symptoms in addition to mild hypertension. Kidney hormones which keep the blood vessels elastic tend to reduce with age and stress, that is why stress and hypertension are strongly related. Author is sure that you may have very light or very few hours sleep, which may also be a factor attributing to hypertension. Other symptoms such as hot/cold flashes, irritability, hair-loss, internal dryness, sudden mood swings, doom feelings, panic feeling, anxiety also may be present to more or less extent. Such states are not withing reach of diuretics, beta blockers or ACE inhibitors of allopathy, based on experience with several patients who had reached these limits. Hormone replaceent therapies are accepted by those who do not know about their connection to cancers. On the other hand when they were changed to ayurvedic drugs, the hypertension reduced and leveled out, as the root cause was tackled, rather than symptom. Please see a nearby vaidya, discuss all your issues with him, and let him arrive at a balanced lifestyle, food programme and medicines. Hypertension may be a common symptom these days, but author has seen that each individual has a unique root cause and each needs a different treatment. Ayurvedic approach is often not classifiable in to compartmental approach. If nearby vaidya is not available, look through the file on Menopause_Treat.doc available at the link http://health.ayurvedaarticles/Dr. %20BhateFiles/ Adopt a diet which reduces vitiated Vata and Pitta together. If you are in India, use bottle gourd juice at breakfast time. Aamalki Rasyan, Gulkand, Drakshavaleha, Shatavari Kalpa, Phal Ghruta are many possibilities, amongst which vaidya has a choice to select the appropriate hormonal balnce receipe. Needless to say, Yoga and Pranayama, meditation are drugless approaches giving better choice.
