Bonnie>> The most brilliant purification techniques ever devised are the techniques of a properly administered Panchakarma course. Techniques like Snehana, Swedana, Virechana, Vasti, different types of Dhara, Navarakizhi, Pizhichil, etc. will clean the body at deep and profound levels. Internal snehana is a realization of great genius, there is no more effective and safe method to remove deep acid toxins. The caveat is that these methods must be administered under the supervision of a true master Vaidya otherwise there is potential for sideffects. Techniques like internal Snehana and Virechana are much more scientific as an example, than the popular liver cleanses being used today. If one does not have access to a real Vaidya then I think the most effective techniques are those of the modern Naturopaths and Yogis that attempt to restore the acid/alkaline balance. S.M. Acharya posted on this subject today. A favorite book on the subject is The Acid Alkaline Diet by Christopher Vasey. This book discusses the science behind this concept in a clear and easy to understand way. A simplified approach is to just begin adding plenty of fruit and vegetables to the diet, avoiding acid fruits in the beginning, and drinking plenty of non acid juices. When the excess acids are removed, which are holding the stagnant toxic fluids, then the body will more easily be able to deal with the excess acids on it's own, if suffecient alkaline substances are available. There are many products available to help in clearing the excess acids. A company that has many products based on Vasey's concepts is PHion, here is a link; http://www.ph-ion.com/ Please remember that it will not be possible to remove the acid toxins with any of these products, by themselves, one must use them as support to a cleansing diet and lifestyle. Continuing to follow the old disease forming habits while taking medicines or cleansing substance is a waste of time and money. This is the reason why techniques like Panchakarma therapies work, they remove layers of the imbalanced Doshas and this allows the body to function in a more normal manner, beginning the process of self healing. As long as the body is under the burden of excess acids, excess fluids, excess gas, excess salt, insuffecient potassium and magnesium (and other alkaline minerals), heavy metal burden, etc., then the body has no chance to heal, no matter how many medicines one takes. Panchakarma by itself will not cure disease, one must learn to live a health promoting life, then Shodhana therapies are God given tools to help us in recovery. These points are often ignored and then the benefits of therapies remain limited. The most common pattern is one takes therapies and medicines and feels wonderful afterwards, then they go back to the old disease forming habits and all of the symptoms return. I have seen people go through this type of pattern many times and eventually they give up on Ayurveda and go about telling people that Ayurveda does not work. Shodhana therapies are not the end they are the beginning. Liz
