Hi shirish sir!

sometime back, somebody had posted a query regarding hypersalivation

after ungergoing certain dental procedure...if the real cause of the

problem to be taken as mercury in dental filling! Can't we think on

the lines of RASAAJIRN LAKSHANA described in rasaarnava and the

treatment being intake of shuddha gandhak and go-ghrith along with

sita mixed milk?

Mercury and also other toxicity can be reduced by many simple swaras

treatments, e.g. see

ayurveda/message/6220

Swaras of many easily available herbs is safer. Also avaialbility of

kitchen spices, vegetable juices etc is so good. Inexpensiveness is

another factor which favours such approaches.

This of course does not mean that one should not try the approach you

suggest. Since we are thinking of disease condition in terms of

modern science, and trying to to find its meaning in the language of

ancestors, the chances of controversies are high. And just comparing

symptoms is not adequate. What is the equivalent of Vata, Pitta and

Kapha in modern science test reports? lack of uniqueness here makes

thinking confused.

If we need entirely another language (test reports of modern science)

to understand ayurveda, can ayurveda be termed as all inclusive science

applicable to all livings?

Dear Shirish,

Such opinion is detrimental to Ayurveda practice, I mean the registered

practitioners who practice in their dispensaries / consulting rooms / hospitals.

According to state rules and legislature, it is necessary for the doctor to

confirm his diagnosis and revalidate his treatment thro' investigations

consistent with modern sciences, irrespective of the pathy one is practising.

Because any aberration in the treatment of the patient can lead to medico-legal

problems and allegations of medical negligence.Hence to be on safer side of

records and to disprove the allegations, it is always beneficial to have third

party observations, that is the modern investigations-be it blood reports,

x-rays, sonography, MRI etc. It can be also helpful in discussions on

International fora. Any supplementation of other sciences can never be harmful.

Controversies occur when people start applying any knowledge without the basic

understanding and training of a particular knowledge. All medical sciences from

ancient times till today are based on the anatomy, physiology, and natural laws

of illness, recovery, cure and health governing the human body. The only

variation is in the interpretation of facts. Ayurveda is structured from

mico-aspect (Sukshma) to macro-aspect (Sthula) perspective, hence the dosha to

dhatu mode; where as, modern sciences started from gross anatomy and culminated

in microscopic interpretations viz cellular and DNA studies. If both the

approaches are properly studied, there should be no confusion and controversies

what so ever.

For lay persons and other non-graduates in Ayurveda, trying their hand in herbal

and domestic therapeutics, none of the explanation is mandatory and plenty of

controversies will be the resultant outcome, as their knowlegde and experience

of medical sciences would have basic limitations.
