Baba Ramdev isn't a cheat!

I am shocked to read that Yogacharya BKS Iyengar has called Baba Ramdev as a

cheat (Pune Mirror, Sunday, June 8, 2008). It’s like one thief calling another

a thief. Before advising Baba Ramdev to first cure his own eye problem which is

due to facial paralysis that occurred while doing yoga, let him not forget that

Iyengar himself was a very sick person before he took to yoga. Baba Ramdev never

criticizes anyone. Iyengar should better learn that human quality from Baba

Ramdev.

Baba has not commercialized yoga. Anyone can view Aastha Channel for free and

learn what he wants. No one is forced to do yoga. Those millions of people who

have learnt yoga by viewing on Aastha Channel, have been benefited immensely.

Let Iyengar read the book published by Patanjali Yogpeeth founded by the Baba,

“Yoga in synergy with Medical Science†with full facts and clinical trials

and extensive feedback, how Yoga has cured incurable diseases.

I was myself practicing pranayam with my Pratah Sandhya (morning prayers) for 40

years, yet I was suffering from asthma, bronco-pneumonia, backache and a host of

other diseases. Ever since I started doing pranayams as suggested by Baba Ramdev

just by viewing them on Aastha Channel, I have been cured of many ailments that

could not be cured by expert allopathic doctors. That does not mean that those

allopathic doctors are not expert docs.

Like Iyengar and Baba Ramdev, I too practiced some new improvised methods for

improving my spinal damage to cure my own backaches. With God’s grace, I

developed my own simple yogic exercises to cure my nagging backache after

suffering for 40 years. Now whoever comes to me gets cured sans all medicines

and drugs. I have helped more than 30,000 people including many senior yoga

practitioners, doctors, nurses and thousands of common patients by organizing

free backache cure camps in India and abroad, They all had come to me and got

cured of their own back pains by learning the simple spinal yoga from me. Even

those who were to be operated got well without the operation.

Just as Iyengar has quoted some cases that got worse by following Baba Ramdev on

Aastha channel, I have hundreds of cases who got worse after enrolling with

Iyengar for treatment. Under his guidance, a full fledged yoga treatment centre

is being run in Pune at Kabir Bag. Many patients from Iyengar and Kabir Bag have

come to me as they did not get relief even after treatment for many months

paying hefty fees. Out of hundreds of such examples, I give only one here of two

ladies who had come from a South-East Asian country for treatment at

Iyengar’s, ten years ago. They had paid heavy fees for registration and had

taken an apartment on rent on high charges. When their condition got worse, they

visited me just for one-day, got well and returned back. I have full case

histories recorded and preserved of such patients for further research in

future. But I never called Iyengar a ‘cheat’.

By criticizing Baba Ramdev, Iyengar has downgraded himself in the eyes of those

who had great respect for the Yogacharya.

I would like to applaud you on your simple and effective method for curing

backache.

 

I don't have first hand information about Baba Ramdev and his techniques. So I

don't want to comment on that. Isn't Astha channel a part of the cable network

in India which people need to pay for ? One report I read about Baba Ramdev is

about a teenage biy who lost his life during a Yoga camp organized by Baba

Ramdev. I'm not accusing Baba Ramdev here but I'm just saying he is not free of

controversies. But as far as BKS Iyengar is concerned why do you think he being

sick before he started doing Yoga is a case against him ? Infact he himself

candidly wrote in his book that he was a sick child who could not afford medical

treatment. As he was poor he was advised to practice Yoga by Shri

Krishnamacharya ( the great Yogi who could stop his heart beats at will using

Yoga techniques! ). His own discovery of Yoga and innovative style have helped

millions of people in the world. The South-east Asian students that went to his

institute might not have directly studied with BKS Iyengar or did they ?

I've personally followed BKS IYengar techniques and is absolutely safe and

effective for everyone. Even my wife during her pregnancy followed Iyengar Yoga

and delivered a healthy baby. Every asana is systematically introduced and

people are encouraged to slowly work on their poses. I do agree that if poses

are done incorrectly or if you push yourself too far Yoga can hurt or make

things worse. Note that BKS Iyengar is in his late 80s and still does all the

advanced Yoga poses. He stays in Kapotasana ( Pigeon pose ) for half an hour

continuously. This is an advanced back bend pose which only a few people in the

world can stay for few seconds! So your accusation against BKS Iyengar isnt fair

either.

I am not accusing Yogi BKS Iyengar. I was reacting to his remark " Baba Ramdev is

a cheat " . Any one can die at any time due to sudden heart attack. That boy's

case quoted by you is like that only. There are many persons who do not get full

benefit by viewing Aastha Channel (which is now free to air not only in India

but also in UK and Europe).

 

I know both these Yoga gurus very well. I never expected from a man of Iyengar's

stature to brand a fellow yogi, much more popular worldwide as a " cheat " .

 

I have highest regards for Iyengarji also. But let me tell you my own feelings

about Baba Ramdev. Even when God comes in the garb of an unknown person at our

door, we may shut our door saying " Don't disturb " without realising His worth.

We were not lucky to have seen personally when there was Ramavtar, or

Krishnavtar or even when Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira came to this earth

although we know that there were ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu known as

" Dashavtaras " .

 

When great people are born on this earth, we later on start calling them

" Avataras " .. Now we have a great opprtunity to see for ouselves one man called

Baba Ramdev who is going to be annointed as " Yogavatara " by our posterity. All

Avataras had enemies and those who criticised them vehemently. So too, we have

Ramdeva's critics.

 

Let me tell youthat no other Avatar has done so much to move the entire world in

favour ofYoga and Ayurveda. Baba Ramdev has beaten even the entire allopathic

system in its own den but without bad words. He always praises allopathy which

is excellent for having deveopled scientific investigations like CatScans, MRIs

and what not. It is also the best for emergencies like surgery after an accident

or sudden heart attack.

 

Baba Ramdev has proved how Prana (life-giving oxygen and what not in simple

words) can rejuvenate each and every cell of the human body to get rid off all

dreaded diseases. It does take time to do pranayams and yoga but it does work.

 

No other Avatar did so much worldwide, excepting Lord Buddha Who has great

following in China, Japan and other East Asian countries. But even senior

doctors in USA, UK and other countries have started believing in Baba Ramdeva's

theories. John Hopkin's University in USA has done research proving how cancer

cells get killed in an oxygenated environment. Thus if cells are given extra

oxygen by way of Kapaalbhat or Anulom-vilom pranayams, etc. diseases start

getting not only cured but also prevented. I have personal experience of such

things that have happened to me but let us keep it for some other time, time

permitting.

 

Many lady doctors in UK and other plces have started giving lessons in pranayam

to their patients who are getting not only proper deliveries but also those who

were infertile, have been blessed with beautiful babies. One lady at 45 years of

age who had no child got pregnant by following pranayam and taking Shivlingi and

Putrajeevak, etc that are prescribed in such cases. She was advised by a gynic

to get aborted as there were chances of not getting a normal baby. Yet she

delivered a very healthy baby. There are hundreds of such miraculous cases which

you can come acrosss by viewing either the Aastha Channel or by reading the

personal stories in the Yog Darshan monthly. I would also refer you to please

read about the impossible or incurablecases that got cured with scientific

analysis in their latest book on, " Yoga in synergy with Medical Science " .

 

Hence, I am not against Iyengar but about his uncalled for remarks about Baba

Ramdev. These remarks have lessened my reverence for Iyengarji, if I may say so.

Anyways I think Shri Iyengar raised an important question about Baba Ramdev's

facial paralysis although " Cheat " is indeed a harsh word. I'm not judging

anyone here but we just need to exercise caution before declaring anyone as an

Avatar and start worshiping him/her.

Hi,

 

This is pompy, I just want to say that instead of arguing on the topics which way of learning yoga is best and which is harmful. you should create awarness of how to learn correct yoga. because yoga was not created by either of them. They learned it and use to teach people. yoge has only one correct form irrespective of whoever the teacher is. so, can you guide me on the correct way to learn yoga and pranayam, because I am very much interested in it.
