What kinds of improvements, in TCM terms, would we expect to see after a liver

detox formula is used? How long are they used for?

I do agree that there is not a strong relationship between the western

concept of detoxification and CM's 'toxin' or 'toxic heat'. But I do think

there is a need to detoxify the liver in many people or should one say aid

in its ability to detox (via phase I & II) as well as prevent unnecessary

creation of toxins that the liver must handle (i.e. from gut dysbiosis)... I

also think that most of the practitioners that squawk about this need, know

very little of what they are talking about, and are just parroting the

modern lingo (detox detox detox) and thinking hmhmm.. 'milk thistle' - But I

would image herbs like bai shao and chai hu will be shown to aid in this

process, but it is so hard to say without research. It is just a different

way of viewing the body. I see no reason that these 2 worlds will not

merge.

In TCM terms, liver detox treats a zang like a fu, a treasury like a

distribution hub, a yin organ like a yang one, which then risks discharging the

precious or damaging the yin. Of course, " gall bladder cleanse " may state more

accurately what is being done with " liver detox " and if it obviates the now

common cholecystectomy, may be a needed stand-in for dietary education. Carl

genetic high cholesterol

Speaking of treating preventatively/treating on the basis of lab results:

Has anyone had success treating genetic-type high cholesterol? A former

patient was recently dx'd with this (lab results obtained at general

check-up); I have not seen her in awhile but she has a tendency toward

mild Liver Qi invading Sp/St. She reports no major health symptoms

currently but wants to avoid statins if possible and her MD is

open-minded. (I don't know about LDL/HDL ratio; triglycerides are fine,

BP is fine.)

My general instinct would be to treat what I see (TCM pattern-wise),

regardless of western dx info, and just see if improving TCM function

affects the lab values. (And, if the values don't get any worse and she

doesn't have any sx, should one worry? could just be normal variation?)

I am open to input from those more into Naturopathy/functional

(bio)medicine, though my goal is to get to a point of feeling really

competent in the medicine I studied! : )

Any thoughts and experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nora

Can you elaborate on why you feel it is the best.

-Jason

Jason,

I like flax seed oil better because (1) I have much better control

over the quality (organic, cold-pressed, reliable source, etc.), (2)

it is a precursor to EPA and therefore it supports the

anti-inflammatory pathways (if they are working properly, otherwise

fish oil may be the better choice) rather than bypassing a step, and

(3) because it has a higher omega 3 content than fish oil. I always

recommend the oil together with the ground seeds, for the known

co-factors as well as the soluble and insoluble fiber it supplies.

What are your thoughts?

Ross,

In your view, what do you think of Dr. Hammer's Book, Chinese Pulse Diagnosis,

as a substitute for the seminar?

A very good point, Carl. In terms of Chinese medicine, we are more

probably speaking about issues that would involve primarily the gall

bladder and stomach rather than liver and spleen.

Hi Lyndall!

Milk Thistle, the liquid tincture is an excellent herb for the liver,

also Lecithin will help remove some fatty deposits and toxins, good

luck.

For Detoxification…………….

Before you go to bed at night, take two cloves of fresh garlic and chop

it and let it expose to the air for a few minutes ( not more than 5

mts). The chopping releases the enzyme alliance in the garlic. Gather

the chopped garlic on a spoon and swallow it with water. The garlic will

travel your entire digestive tract while you sleep and scavenge and

neutralize all the toxins, carcinogens, harmful bacteria, fungi,

viruses, foreign chemical before they can harm your healthy cells.

Swallowing the chopped garlic will not give you garlic breath, as long

as you don't chew it. You brush your teeth and rinse your mouth before

you go to bed anyway. In the morning, drink a big glass of water. Your

first bowel movement will have a strong garlic odor and you will know

that the harmful stuff have been eliminated from your body. Try it,

especially if you have had a bad eating day.

Before practice any natural medicine it is advisable that wash your

stomach by enema or take some Tamarind in warm water and drink it at

night , it can cause a loose motion, and your stomach will be

clean, which will help you for a good treatment ( at least once in a

Couple of week is best for maintain a good health).

With best wishes
