Narcolepsy

Dear Teresa,

I've never run into a Narcoleptic case so can not speak from personal experience here.

However, if the below description is accurate, it would seem to me to be responsive to the Nerve Regeneration Formula (in the Files) and some DNA realignment with DMSO.

Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder. Medical researchers have recently identified the cause as the absence of a neurotransmitter, normally present in the hypothalamus region of the brain, which produces the hypocretin peptide essential to the human sleep-wake cycle. A very difficult fact to understand for one with narcolepsy and those around him or her, is that sleepiness and sleep attacks are uncontrollable.

This is just too obscure an area for me without a past experience.

Hope the above helps.

In health and love,

Has anyone had success treating Narcolepsy?

I have an older woman I am treating. She is 82 and claims she has suffered

from narcolepsy for most of her life. When she is engaged in conversation,

she is fine. Otherwise, she is falling asleep during intake. She also has

heart problems and has had a stroke which has caused memory losses. __

Acudoc,

I had a similar case 4 years ago. It was a tough case.

A man, age 56, had a narcolepsy disorder for more than 8 years which

gave him an early termination of employment. He could sleep anytime,

anywhere even when he was in the toilet he may be found on the floor

sleeping. He was not allowed to drive because he could sleep in a car

even for 5 minutes. When he was waiting to be served to see me, he

slept for an hour in the office before seeing me. He was sent to

neurologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, but nothing was found.

Some nutritionists said he had an imbalance of electrolytes. However,

nothing resolved for years. Doctors advised him to be very restricted

to special diet, but it did not help.

He was well built, healthy, looked and sounded brilliant. No

headache, no diziiness, no pain anwyhere, no tinnitus, and he seemed

very calm. His pulses were full slippery, thin white coat.

When I had this case, this wondered me : What caused an insomnia ?

If something may cause insomnia may help me to induce an insomnia in

this case....... HELP ME THINK ABOUT THIS TOO,MY FRIEND !

I thought most of insomnia cases was the restless internal movement

of Qi , blood , fluids or jing ? Some Yin material is still in motion

which should be at rest ? HOWEVER, I TREATED INSOMNIA WITH MORE SUCCESS.

But this case the pulses are full and slippery ? Which means it

should be restless and quite awake, why narcolepsy ?

I first tried to sedate Du20 ..... nothing happened.

S36 sedation, same result.......

Next 2 days , I tried Liv 2 , Liv3... no help.

I told him " This case is so strange. I tried but had not found

anything yet. You may find someone else. You should have checked with

psychiatrist or endocrinologist. " . He said, " Go ahead doc. I will

stay with you even if I have to come 50 times. I feel more comfortable

with you and I can trust you. "

I tried to reduced his Yang energy for 3 or 4 more times, but no

help. I asked myself , " What have I done so far ? Why should I take

his energy away ????????? This might have made him sleep more

soundly..... This was deadly wrong !!!!!!!!!! I did not know what I

had been doing ? FORGIVE ME EVERYBODY !

The 8th time, I changed my phylosophy. Even though his pulses were

full and slippery. Probably because it took me sometimes less than 2

minutes for each treatment. I did not take away too much of his Qi.

For he still had some full Qi, I used SP9 , to regulate vigorously to

resolve damp, and added S40 to resolve phlegm. This time I must used

2 points to resolve damp and phlegm. For the first time, he stayed

awake and felt alert he said.

This method was used 2 more times. Each time last for more than 5

days. He could do everything and reported not sleepy.

One month later , he came back his narcolepsy began to reattack

him. I checked his pulses " same as at the beginning " . I used SP9

and S40, strongly tonify and regulate. After that, I gave him LIU JUN

ZI WAN , 30 pills each, 2x/ day.

He came back 2x / month , just to visit and have a chat.

Everything is normal.

THIS IS A RARE CASE.......... BUT YOUR CASE MAY BE DIFFERENT!

This case will give you a hint........... ASK YOUR SELF, " WHAT

MAKES OR CAUSES INSOMNIA ? ....... CAN I APPLY THAT TO COUNTER THE

NARCOLEPSY ?

GOOD LUCK , ACUDOC !

Thank you Nam, you have me thinking more about this

Overall qualities slippery empty and somewhat irregular

Pulses: Heart :deep slippery irregular with inflamed pc

Liver: usually slippery scattered or rapid, usually with a

slight vibration (her daughter irritates her during intake)

Kidney: usually deep and weak and slippery

Lung: forceful but empty and very choppy

Spleen: scattered empty

Kidney: very deep and slippery

Tongue: Alternates between dim red or pale pink

Red sides and tip

Dry thin coat (sometimes white, sometimes slightly yellow

although mostly tea stained)

She claims she sleeps very lightly at night and is up constantly with every

noise. Her daughter says that when she sees her mother sleep, it is usually

soundly with lots of snoring.

Her main complaint is constant lower back (sacral) pain. It is a constant

ache usually scaled at between a 3 and 6.

I do damp points like sp9, 6 and st 40. I also alternate between GB34 and St

36 along with other spleen points.

I was thinking the narcolepsy was caused by amerodion (sorry I don’t spell

pharmiceudicals very good) but she has reduced her dosage and the condition

didn’t change. She also takes oxycotin.

Other: She sweats profusely, has post nasal drip and has neuropathy in both

feet laterally which has been getting much better

Formulas? Points?

ACUDOC,

YOUR CASE OF NARCOLEPSY here is a strange one.

I do not think this is a narcolepsy case. The pulses here are

deficiency case. This should be an insomnia case. Somehow, I do not

get the picture how can it be named as narcolepsy.

Slippery pulse and irregular " seems strange "

Slippery means full and smooth, but irregular " means

interruption " . This could be too much calcium intake, zinc,

magnesium or manganese deficiency - some mineral deficiency could

cause irregular heart beat. please recheck with your patient.

> Pulses: Heart :deep slippery irregular with inflamed pc. How do

you know she has an inflamed PC ( chest pain with intense heat

sensation, maniac type, ulcerous tongue ??? )

Heart deep slippery irregular = deep " internal " , slippery "

full of blood " , irregular " misbeats, maybe chronic or inborn

constitution " ...... There is a full blood flow with something wrong

with Qi....... irregular beat in this case is Wind. Wind causes

irregular movement. But this is a strange case " Full blood flow with

internal wind. " What caused this internal wind ??? Must not be

internal!!!!!!!

It must be from the external ! Drugs ? Medication? Chemicals ?

Emotion ? Diet ? If this is the external case, it must be recent a

few months, not years...???

This pulse quality presents insomnia, I believe.

Liver: usually slippery scattered or rapid, usually with a

> slight vibration (her daughter irritates her during intake)=

Liver slippery " full " , rapid " heat or fire " , slight viration "

wind " , scattered " dying down " .... Again this pulse is still

presenting the strong Heart fire with wind . This will cause insomnia.

Acudoc, I am sorry to be confused by your pulse palpation. The

more I read the more I am confused.

MY SUGGESTION TO READ PULSES:

ACTUALLY we are reading pulses to compare or to confirm if all

symptoms are related. And the first few things we want to know :

FORCEFUL-WEAK , FLOAT-DEEP , FAST-SLOW

Forceful or weak to signal us deficiency of excess ( excess /

deficiency ... tonify or sedate )...

Fast or slow ( heat / cold ... to use warm or cool herb )

Float or deep ( acute / chronic ... to insert needle shallow or deep )

Choppy ( obstruction or weakness, deficiency = not enough flow )

Slippery ( full and smooth flow = full condition )

THROUGH THIS CASE this should be an insomnia case........... Somehow,

if the patience experiences the narcolepsy, ask her what is her

lifestyle, diet, chemical interaction, drug, alcohol, emotional

reaction !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other: She sweats profusely, has post nasal drip and has

neuropathy in both

> feet laterally which has been getting much better...... Eliminate

all drugs used first, ask her doc to switch to others.

Sweet foods will cause drowsy.......Ask her to stay away from it.

For I do not know the true case here is a narcolepsy, I cannot

advise anymore.

Is this a mistake with different case ??? a insomnia case instead?

I have treated 3 cases of narcolepsy over the years and in each case found

various common issues, but always fairly strong spleen qi def symptoms. But the

trick was to find a way to explain how could spl qi def cause narcolepsy.

Figured it had to do with clear yang fails to rise and disperse. In each case I

used Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan and obvious spleen qi points. Although no total cures,

each case saw at least 50% reduction in incidents. Reductions where see in about

30 days.

I so appreciate your imput. You have helped me to see some issues here. This

patient is a real challenge.

My pulse vocabulary is limited. What is the name of a slippery feeling pulse

that has no strength. It feels slippery, but when you put any pressure on

it, it is completely or mostly empty? As far as the PC thing-I was taught by

a hammer pulse person that feeling a pencil point like feeling at the most

proximal part of the heart pulse indicates problems in the physical PC,

usually swelling.

Her pulses are messed up by the massive amounts of medications. The pulse

was stronger before she cut down on the heart medication. The doctors will

not change her medications and have actually upped the dosages on several

(to spite me?) She has stopped her synthroid and is taking thyrodia, but I

have been unsuccessful with getting her switched off or reduced dosage on

the rest.

She is deficient everywhere, heart, lungs, kidney... She also has damp and

phlegm.

Her hearbeat is very irregular including chops and missed beats. She does

physically have major heart issues including leaky valves, a murmur,

pericardium swelling, and was told the last 2 quarters of her heart have

hardened and barely work at all.

Her diet is also horrible. She lives in a retirement setting where they make

her meals. She has brain damage from the stroke and forgets she is unable to

eat certain foods, such as sugary desserts. I am making her keep a food

diary. I hope she remembers to keep it.

Oh yeah, did I mention that she is afraid of her own shadow? Especially at

night.

I think you are correct about this being an insomnia case instead of

narcolepsy. The doctors also have her sleeping with an older c-pack unit.

The daughter and I were thinking the noise and confinement of the machine is

keeping her from deep sleeping.

Re: Narcolepsy

Acudoc,

The picture seems a little bit clearer.

She is an elderly and has been under medical treatment.

If she is an elderly she might have had been treated with estrogen

or progestrin or some hormone therapy which help her in postmenopause

or for bone strengthening. The hormone therapy leaves so many marks

behind after a certain period which is after 3 - 6 months. Those

marks are confusion, depression, anorexia, anger, libido insensitive,

sleeping problems ( too much sleep or none ), suicide attempts....

Everything you can name it.

This is the reason I asked you to find out and have her getting off

her medication which is unnecessary. Ask her family doctor for

permission. When you ask her doc, discuss the situation that she has.

Ex : Hey doc, I think this medication is too strong and this cause

her confusion, depression. Is there any substitution which is much

less in strength?

This case for me is extremely difficult unless the doc is cooperative.

NOTE : Most medications cause dryness and too much acid in the

body which upset the whole chemical reactions and cause too much

reactants and toxic gas internally. TO COUNTERBALANCE , I think we

first should aim at TONIFYING the digestive system ( SP-Sto, Liv , and

Ki ) and then have her drink most liquid juice or eating food which

contain more alkaline to balance with the acid. This will definitely

help........... However, the medication is on must be cut down or cut off.

Thanks for your reading,

Good luck,

Nam Nguyen

Dear Doctors,

Please advise:

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2001. I have been under

Ayurvedic herbs for 3 years, but, nighttime sleep has always remained

a problem. Sometimes taking valium to sleep.

Yesterday, after undergoing testing, I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy.

I understand excesive sleepiness to be Kapha problem, however,

narcolepsy is central nervous system.

I have Ketu in Virgo Lagna and feel that my sleep problem is Vata

related.

Any suggestions I would appreciate. The drug protocol for Narcolepsy

is not what I want for myself. It is a drug like ridilin in the day

and a hypno drug at night every day.

Thank you for your time and any suggestions.

Aurora
