Guest guest
The classic, old-fashioned remedy is not herbal. It's boric acid wash. You can get the powder at most pharmacies. Mix it with hot water, and dab it with cotton. Even if the case is not really pinkeye, it won't hurt anything. But don't ever drink the stuff! It has many other uses, including insect control. Guest guest
Rinse with salt water several times a day (with an eyecup.) Boil distilled water, measure 1 cup, add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. Make fresh daily. Sterilize the container at least weekly by boiling. The only time I did this (it worked), I boiled the eye cup every day. It only took a couple of days. But there are so many causes of pink eye, and it could cause blindness, are you SURE her PCP was okay with her not coming in? flamingyouth68 <flamingyouth68 [flamingyouth68] Saturday, January 11, 2003 12:36 PM Pink Eye Does anyone have a good, low-cost suggestion about treating this problem? I have a friend who is young and in school and has no health insurance. I tried to get her to visit an eye doctor, but she really doesn't have the money. Her PCP told her to just put hot wash cloths on the eyes. Any other suggestions? I hate to recommend any herbs without getting more input. Guest guest
You might ask your friend to check in with her school to see if they have a doctor, PA or nurse staffed there that will see students for free.. we have a health office set up at my college where the students can go for free and is really helpful, since I don't have insurace either.. just a thought.. Guest guest
Lisa-- If she is truly your friend, you should convince her to visit an eye doctor. There are many serious eye problems (some of which can lead to loss of vision) that can misdiagnosed as " pink eye " by non-medical people. Even family doctors can easily misdiagnose " pink eye. " I have a good friend to whom this happened and it caused many long-term vision problems. Guest guest
Thank you for the advice. I will pass it on to her. Yes, it's true, her physician told her that as long as she had no green pus oozing out of it, or that her vision is not blurry, she doesn't need to come in. Go figure... , " Sal " <sal@d...> wrote: > Rinse with salt water several times a day (with an eyecup.) > Boil distilled water, measure 1 cup, add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 > teaspoon baking soda. Guest guest
Thank you, Dennis. Yes, I have been leaning very heavily on her, believe me. What disturbs me is that her doctor's office really blew it off when she called (see my previous post). I will be seeing her tomorrow and if she is not a whole lot better, I'm going to loan her the $ and send her to my own eye doctor, who is wonderful. Guest guest
> Michelle, Calendula I have LOTS of. Helen~ Oh good- my favorite plant! So versatile I use it for almost everything! For pinkeye brew 1TB per 4 oz of water- let cool(obviously!) rinse eye with tea and then place soaked cotton ball on the eye for as long as the person will co operate! Brew fresh each day- wash eye several times a day. Michelle

Guest guest
I remember when my kids were little and had it. In order to keep it from spreading quickly I would clean off all their toys, door handles, everything they touched with alcohol. My pediatrician gave them some eye drops (not sure what) and it cleared up quickly. Biggest thing is to clean what you touch with alcohol and keep everybody's hands clean. Best of luck;-) On Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 02:20 PM, herbal remedies wrote: > " Staya Udanvti Bob Butler " CherokeeBo > Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:38am(PDT) > Re: CS in the Eyes > > Hi Lana! > > Pink Eye can cause blindness if not treated quickly. > I just had a case of pink eye a week ago 14 April and I used CS > (colloidal silver) sprayed on and in the eye many times a day. Guest guest
Mary B- I just recovered from Pink Eye and eyebright is great stuff, but if it is the bacterial one -then a requirement to the doctor to get bacterial eyes drops is recommended. It is highly contagious and a need to wash everything is vital everyday to avoid spreading. In a first on set of Pink Eye - colloidal Silver applied 3-5 times a day can resolve, however and this is important Pink Eye can cause serious side effects so I urge you to go to a doctor and get those drops. My Homeopath recommended me to the doctor and I am glad. Sending blessings and energy your way. Guest guest
I have had good luck with a couple tablespoons of salt in water, boiled for 15 minutes to sterilize. Apply to each eye with a cotton ball from inside corner to outer corner. Use an eye dropper to drop some in each eye. Use cotton ball only once and separate one for each eye. Wash hands well before treating the eyes. Do this often If the eyes will not open, hold the wet cotton ball on the eye till the stuff softens. May have to use more than one cotton ball for this, This usually clears up fast. Eyebright tea is also good but add the salt too. Guest guest
Green? That doesn't sound good. But when my son and I got pinkeye, I just boiled some water and dipped a cotton ball in it, slowly put it toward my eye, held it on my eye as soon as it had **cooled enough to not actually burn the tissues**. Took care of it pretty quickly. Just make sure you don't burn yourself! Wait for the cotton ball to cool down a little. Guest guest
In the past, I have seen it relieved by boiling water - letting it cool enough to apply with a clean cloth and clean the eye several times a day.
