Guest guest
I swim regularly - six days a week, about 1.5 km every day in the evening. About 4 years ago, I had Otitis media or inflammation of the middle ear. The ear doctors couldn't solve the problem even after cutting the ear drum and draining out fluid the first time. The second time they cut he ear drum, they analyzed the fluid then injected antibiotics through an intravenous drip for about 10 days. It did cure the ear infection, but degraded my hearing ability slightly. There are signs now that the same inflammation is initiating (itching in the inner ear; sometimes a slight pain). I have no intention of resorting to allopathy this time; I heated some virgin olive oil with a clove of garlic, soaked a ball of cotton and placed it in my ear, about three times a day. There has been relief. Once I discontinue, the itching starts. I am still swimming everyday, and have a swimming competition coming up. I also found that using a hair dryer to dry up the moisture in the ear after swimming helps a little. Am I doing the right thing? Are there any other remedies that are more effective? Is Otitis media the same thing as a swimmer's ear? I have read up a lot on home remedies; I would welcome advice from those who have actually experienced this first hand or have suggested remedies that have worked well. Thanks in advance for any advice. I'm based in Japan, by the way. Gururaj Rao
Guest guest
If you are a swimmer who participates in competitions then your coach will tell you . My daughters were national level swimmers. They used to put their ear on their shoulder lift the other arm up above the head and jump on the leg on the side of the ear that is on the shoulder. then do the same with the other side. This will remove the water from the ears. Never ever go in for invasive treatments for anything, there are plenty others available. My son couldn't swim because of the same problem he used to get high fever we couldn't pin point the reason. My mother gave him sulphur 6x (homeopathic) and the third day water came out of his ears. We were stunned. sulphur has some limitations please find out about it before using. _________________ About 4 years ago, I had Otitis media or inflammation of the middle ear. Guest guest
Thanks, these first hand experiences are rather interesting. No, we don't have a coach. We are a group of private individuals who go to a club and train on our own. That's an interesting way to remove water. We do the same thing, but instead of jumping up, we thump the other side of the head with the flat of the hand, so water comes out. The main problem here is not the water - the water has already done the damage. It is either viral or bacterial infection as a result of moistness over a prolonged period resulting in the formation of pus-like fluid. One of the suggested remedies using natural substances include few drops of warmed-up white vinegar, virgin olive oil or baby oil with with garlic juice; I seem to be having some success with baby oil and garlic paste. The itching in the ear has ceased. I will try out the process you have described for removing water from the ears - I presume this is done outside the water? Thanks for your input.
