She was just 7 and, as a Chow/Blue Heeler mix, should have had years longer to live. I can help you out on that one being in the vet field myself. People need to get their dogs off of the commercial kiible they have been feeding their dogs and look into feeding biological appropriate raw foods or go to a commercial kibble like California Natural and Innova where there are only 5 ingredients in these products with no preservatives or artificial anything. If those that are feeding your dog colored kibble, that is the worset thing for your dog's health. If you are feeding Science Diet corn being the first ingredient, we do not digest corn and neither does are furry friends. The same goes with cats. We aquire diabetes because of the diets we were on for so long contianing ingredients like sucrose, glucose, corn syrup and etc. We need to be diligent about what we fedd ourselves and our pets. People read the label on what you feed your dog. My pets, 3 cats and 2 dogs are on raw foods and California Natural. They are never sick and have been healthy for years. No kidney problems, no liver problems and for us people, I read The Makers Diet and it makes perfet sense what we should be eating and not eating. Off my soap box now but just had to get that out. It is what we put into our bodies that other's see on the outside and how we are feeling and where our health is going. I forgot to tell you folks that there are already these kinds of groups at . DO a search for them and you'll come up with several groups but be prepared to for alot of flaming and people telling those that already know and feed their pets that they are wrong. They are pretty rough groups at times and I left because they could structure their conversations better without hurting others. Guest guest
My diabetic dog, Ruby, died last week and it's been very hard on me. I'm diabetic myself but seeing Ruby struggle with the worst kind of diabetes, Type I, where she had to have 2 insulin shots a day, was worse than having diabetes myself. I have started a group for anyone interested in the subject: diabetic_dog/ If you know anyone caring for a diabetic dog or who wants to know more about the subject, I'd appreciate it if you could pass the word. I now wish that I had known more than I know now, I wish I had been able to find some way to prolong her life, so I'm sharing what I know and hoping others on the list will share their knowledge so other people's dogs will have a longer life than Ruby. She was just 7 and, as a Chow/Blue Heeler mix, should have had years longer to live. However, diabetes is a terrible disease. Interesting enough, when you start a new list they make you type in a word that shows in a special box and the word for this list was " love. " This is truly a labor of love. Guest guest
That's exactly why I had joined this list, to learn more about giving Ruby a good diet and not relying on the vet to tell me what was best since he isn't a specialist on diabetes. (I face the same thing myself with my general practitioner that doesn't really know that much about diabetes but still gives me advice all the time.) However, this group, like many other , has a wider focus than just diabetes and that's why I started the list. Thanks, Anna BlessedArk2003 writes: > I can help you out on that one being in the vet field myself. Guest guest
Dear Anna, Sai Ram. We may be rather late as far as your dog was concerned (may he rest in peace and love!), but we are certainly not late as far as your diabetes is concerned! Pl. feel free to ask. We will try our level best to answer you.
