SUGAR SOAP - WHAT IS IT - CAN IT BE MADE

Homemade sugar scrubs are used in bathing. They work really well, so I have

been told, and are easy to make...below is a bit of basic information and a

couple of recipes. You can customize the scrubs to your own liking. They are

usually a fraction of the cost of buying most store-bought scrubs. You can

also make salt scrubs with the same ingredients by replacing course sea salt

with the sugars in the scrubs. Both are great for exfoliating and making your

skin feel soft.

-----

BASIC INGREDIENTS-

SUGAR - granulated sugar, turbinado sugar (a type of brown sugar that is

crystallized from the initial pressing of the sugar cane), or other course

brown

sugar.

OIL - safflower, light olive, soybean, grape seed, apricot, almond, avocado,

jojoba, etc. Any oil that's natural and from a nut or fruit will work. Baby

oil or massage oil (non-scented) will also work. Do not use cooking oil like

corn - that can make a funky smell if making big batches that sit in a

container. Health food stores usually have a nice variety of oils to choose

from.

ESSENTIAL OILS - use your favorite scent or mixture of scents. You can

purchase them at most any health food/whole food store, a variety of craft

stores,

or order them online. A little essential oil goes a long way...add sparingly

to desired potency.

JAR/CONTAINER - any size, plastic or glass, airtight. Old jelly jars or

small specialty food (like mustard) jars are great...by using these kinds of

containers you're recycling too!

UTENSILS - Any old glass or plastic container/bowl will work to mix the

ingredients in....and you will also need something to stir or mix all the

ingredients together and measuring cups. The essential oil scent will absorb

into

wooden or plastic items, so take that into consideration when deciding what

utensils to use. ;)

Brown Sugar Scrub-

1/2 cup of course brown sugar

1/4 cup of almond oil (or other oil)

1/4 cup of liquid Ivory hand soap

1/4 tsp of vanilla

***Mix ingredients together (add more oil if the mixture is too dry, or

sugar if it is too wet). Use as a body scrub/exfoliator (massage into skin,

rinse

off with warm water - shower or tub). Store in a plastic or glass container

with an airtight lid.

Citrus Sugar Scrub-

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup olive oil

1 T. grated lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit zest

a couple drops of any matching citrus oil (optional)

***Instructions same as first recipe.

Relaxing Lavender Brown Sugar Scrub-

1 cup packed course brown sugar

1/2 cup almond oil (or any other oil)

1/2 tsp vitamin E

6 drops (or so) lavender essential oil

***Instructions same as first recipe.

Coffee Scrub-

1/4 cup packed course brown sugar

1/4 cup white sugar

3 tablespoons fresh coffee grounds

1/2 cup almond oil (or other oil)

1 tsp vitamin E

1 tsp vanilla extract

***Instructions same as first recipe.

Coffee Scrub #2-

2 cups ground coffee

1/2 cup sugar

2-3 tablespoons oil of choice

***Instructions same as first recipe.

Oatmeal Sugar Body Scrub-

4 Tablespoons ground rolled oats

4 teaspoons brown sugar

4 Tablespoons aloe vera

2 teaspoon lemon juice

Put rolled oats in blender and blend into a very fine powder. Place oats in

small mixing bowl. Add brown sugar and lemon juice. Mix well. Once mixed, add

aloe vera and stir into a paste being sure there are no lumps. Dampen the

sin, apply paste all over body and massage paste onto skin. Rinse with warm

water. This is enough for one application.
