ACT NOW TO KEEP NUKES, COAL AND OIL OUT OF THE CLIMATE BILL!

500 LETTERS IN TO SCHUMER/GILLIBRAND SO FAR--LET'S DOUBLE THAT NOW!

April 15, 2010

Dear New Yorkers,

Last week we sent you an Alert warning that Sens. Kerry, Graham and

Lieberman will soon introduce their climate bill, and that all signs indicate

it

will be a bonanza for dirty nuclear, oil and coal interests while offering

little in the way of actual climate solutions.

We asked you to send a letter to your Senators urging them to oppose

nuclear subsidies--and support for other polluting industries--in the climate

bill.

And many of you did just that! More than 500 letters have gone in to Sens.

Schumer and Gillibrand over the past week. That's pretty good. Thank you

to everyone who has sent a letter.

But New York is a big state, and we can do much better than 500 letters.

Let's double that number by Monday!

If you haven't sent a letter in yet, _please do so now here._

If you already have sent a letter, please ask a couple of friends and

family members to do so now. Just send them this link:

http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5502/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=2255

If you are part of an organization, please be sure everyone on your

organization's list has the opportunity to send in their letters too.

And if you want to send another letter of your own, we won't discourage

you; but please do edit the sample letter so you don't send the same one

twice.

We'll be taking more steps once the details of the bill are known, but for

now we need to make sure our opposition is clear. After all, the last

thing we want to see are Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand standing behind Kerry,

Graham and Lieberman when this bill is released, which Sen. Kerry now says

will be sometime next week. And while Sen. Gillibrand already has expressed

oppostion to more taxpayer subsidies for nuclear power, she hasn't come out

and said she'll oppose the climate bill if nuclear subsidies are included;

while to the best of our knowledge Schumer hasn't said a word on the issue.

We need climate solutions, not more taxpayer money wasted on nuclear

power, not more offshore oil drilling, not more support for the illusion of

" clean coal. " We can't afford an energy industry bailout that would set our

nation in the wrong direction for decades. We need to get this right.

So please act today. And, if you can, _please support my 25th anniversary

outreach and mobilization fund_

you can afford, so we can get our message out to more and more people. We

can win this battle, if we all act together.

Thanks for all you do,
