Baba Ramdev isn't a cheat!

I am shocked to read that Yogacharya BKS Iyengar has called Baba Ramdev as a

cheat (Pune Mirror, Sunday, June 8, 2008). It’s like one thief calling another

a thief. Before advising Baba Ramdev to first cure his own eye problem which is

due to facial paralysis that occurred while doing yoga, let him not forget that

Iyengar himself was a very sick person before he took to yoga. Baba Ramdev never

criticizes anyone. Iyengar should better learn that human quality from Baba

Ramdev.

Baba has not commercialized yoga. Anyone can view Aastha Channel for free and

learn what he wants. No one is forced to do yoga. Those millions of people who

have learnt yoga by viewing on Aastha Channel, have been benefited immensely.

Let Iyengar read the book published by Patanjali Yogpeeth founded by the Baba,

“Yoga in synergy with Medical Science†with full facts and clinical trials

and extensive feedback, how Yoga has cured incurable diseases.

I was myself practicing pranayam with my Pratah Sandhya (morning prayers) for 40

years, yet I was suffering from asthma, bronco-pneumonia, backache and a host of

other diseases. Ever since I started doing pranayams as suggested by Baba Ramdev

just by viewing them on Aastha Channel, I have been cured of many ailments that

could not be cured by expert allopathic doctors. That does not mean that those

allopathic doctors are not expert docs.

Like Iyengar and Baba Ramdev, I too practiced some new improvised methods for

improving my spinal damage to cure my own backaches. With God’s grace, I

developed my own simple yogic exercises to cure my nagging backache after

suffering for 40 years. Now whoever comes to me gets cured sans all medicines

and drugs. I have helped more than 30,000 people including many senior yoga

practitioners, doctors, nurses and thousands of common patients by organizing

free backache cure camps in India and abroad, They all had come to me and got

cured of their own back pains by learning the simple spinal yoga from me. Even

those who were to be operated got well without the operation.

Just as Iyengar has quoted some cases that got worse by following Baba Ramdev on

Aastha channel, I have hundreds of cases who got worse after enrolling with

Iyengar for treatment. Under his guidance, a full fledged yoga treatment centre

is being run in Pune at Kabir Bag. Many patients from Iyengar and Kabir Bag have

come to me as they did not get relief even after treatment for many months

paying hefty fees. Out of hundreds of such examples, I give only one here of two

ladies who had come from a South-East Asian country for treatment at

Iyengar’s, ten years ago. They had paid heavy fees for registration and had

taken an apartment on rent on high charges. When their condition got worse, they

visited me just for one-day, got well and returned back. I have full case

histories recorded and preserved of such patients for further research in

future. But I never called Iyengar a ‘cheat’.

By criticizing Baba Ramdev, Iyengar has downgraded himself in the eyes of those

who had great respect for the Yogacharya.

One always think and sees his reflection in others. Only a cheat will feel others too to be cheats.Possibly Yogacharya Iyengar is mouth piece of a dravidian party headed by Karunanidhiji who was anxious to know from which donation college Lord Rama graduated.It is better to igonre such senseless comments from such quarters.

How did Hinduism creep into this debate? Both Iyengar and Ramdev have made signal contributions to the field of Yoga. Iyengar's efforts put yoga into the centre of scientific enquiry, while Ramdev's efforts at popularising yoga and carrying it to the masses is worthy of case study status in all schools of business management.

 

Both responded admirably to the age they live in -- Iyengar's scholarly treatises on pranayama, etc filled the needs of a print-oriented generation, whereas Ramdev is a true electronic guru. Both these schools as well as the Bihar School of Yoga have contributed vastly to an appreciation of drugless way to health, and our real efforts should be directed towards supporting all such efforts and vigourously resisting our administration's equation of health = antibiotics+vaccinations+super speciality hospitals.
