Guest guest
I think staying away from NutraSweet and Aspartame are a very good idea. I have heard of Splenda, and think it is OK to use. Dr. Earl Mindell speaks well of it. Stevia is also a good alternative sweetener. Gabriele RN http://www.naturalhealthnurse.com

Gabriele RN http://www.naturalhealthnurse.com I dont know anything about Splenda - only that a woman who came on my group said she had to discontinue using it. As soon as she began it she began getting arthritis like symptoms for the first time in her life, and they kept worsening. Finally she figured it may have to do with the splenda. Within a few days after stopping the use of it her symptoms dissapeared. This may or may not make sense, I don't know, but I believe her. She was asking if anyone else has had that experience with it. Erin
Guest guest
Everyone might want to check out the links that L.S. provided in this thread and find out something about the contra-indications of 'splenda' before stating that we think it is OK to use (why? because it got past the FDA and is being sold to consumers hungry to satisfy their demand for a sweets fix?) thus giving it our 'blind' blessing. It also strikes me as strange that a diabetic, even if all they know about their disorder are the results of having it, would be seeking any kind of sweetener especially a one that is manmade art-ificially. Eating another man's 'art-work' is like trying to live in space instead of keeping our feet on ol' terra firma. The detrimental effects far outweigh any perceived benefits. Let's help people be so healthily well-balanced that they are satisfied with the 'sweetness' of their "life" and are once again free to enjoy the sweet tastes that naturally occur in most foods without doing harm to themselves by buying into the artful contrivances of the food imitators. What a different medical-health-world it would be if we insisted on knowing the down-side of taking anything produced to be marketed to "the consumers" and refused to settle for anything less than correcting the cause of our problems while "doing no harm" to ourselves or others.
