Guest guest
This thread is very interesting to me because of two things. Some time ago I experienced chest pains and after thinking about it for a week or so, took off my new bras, went without for a few days and the pains left. Bad fit and had I gone to an allopathic doc for this you can only imagine the tests I would have gone thru. The other reason this interests me is because I own a shop at a Reniassance Faire and wear gowns with a bodice which is much like a boned corset. They must be made and fitted just as carefully as todays bras. Personally, I would prefer to wear a bodice as the lacings allow you to tighten or loosen and the breast tissue is supported from below rather than the shoulders. In this time frame you did indeed " lace up " in the morning and wear it all day. They were not made for periods of sitting but if you do sit one does sit up straight. LOL the boning does not allow slouching. Roxanne Roxanne J. Guest guest
No bad posture during the Renaissance, eh? Another good reason for Bodices for every (female) body so they can stand straight and tall while they are burning their bras. Roxanne, I take it your bad experience was with so-called " well-fitted " bras ( " They must be made and fitted just as carefully as today's bras " ). Where does a woman go to get fitted with a natural material bodice that is designed to provide a non lymphatic-flow-restricting " support shelf " for her breasts that will allow her rib cage to expand and contract freely? ^ ^elementalclay [elementalclay] ^Wednesday, May 29, 2002 10:45 PM ^ ^ Corsets and breast health ^ ^ ^ This thread is very interesting to me because of two things. ^ Some time ago I experienced chest pains and after thinking about it ^for a week or so, took off my new bras, went without for a few days and ^the pains left. ^ Bad fit and had I gone to an allopathic doc for this you can only ^imagine the tests I would have gone thru. ^ The other reason this interests me is because I own a shop at a ^Reniassance Faire and wear gowns with a bodice which is much like a ^boned corset. Guest guest
William asked where does one go to get a corset of natural marterial that allows one to breathe..... William this is a relatively simple thing to do. Almost any good costumer or person that makes wedding dresses can make them and if you are inclined toward sewing, you can make them yourself. The best pattern is obtained by the woman wearing an old T-shirt, wrap her in duct tape over the breasts, under the arms and continue to the waist while not pulling the tape overly tight. This will afford you with an exact pattern of her body. Cut it apart in the areas of a commercial pattern and allow for seam allowances. Should you not wish to do this, Simplicity has patterns in the costume part of their pattern books. The boning is obtained at better fabric stores and simple unbleached muslin is a good fabric to use. The grommets should not be the small ones from the fabric store but the larger ones used for tarps. They are much stronger and can be found at farm and hardware stores. I hope this was the information you were looking for. Roxanne Roxanne J.
