Many people have never been taught how to find this " Force Within " and therefore they believe it doesn't exist. You don't have to be a Jedi knight or even a Star Wars fan to believe that there's a force that runs through everything in the Universe. Though the untrained mind believes that it takes a doctor to heal or a " guru " to manifest - we know more - far more than we've been led to believe... When we read Carl Jung's quote above, we're reminded that inside all of us is a force with innate intelligence - A force that we're not always aware of and that is often misunderstood. When " dark moments " come over us, or when we begin to imagine new possibilities in our lives (but feel like something is still holding us back), this force can try to send us messages that unless fully aware of, we may interpret as " fear " or " darkness " . - Something to be afraid of... But, what this force inside of us is trying to us tell is that that part of us feels hidden - like it's been locked away - with no form of expression. Maybe all it needs is to be " freed up " . Maybe all it needs is for a " little light " to be turned on. For us to bring a new awareness to our fears. Let's look at Jung's words again: " Enlightenment is not about imagining figures of light but of making the darkness conscious " If " enlightenment " isn't about imagining luminous beings and brightness, then Jung is teaching us something new. Perhaps " enlightenment " is really about bringing " light " to the " dark " and misunderstood parts within us. Maybe we've been led to believe a lie, as William Blake says, when we see with, and not THROUGH, these eyes. Maybe we've been led down the wrong path of " the grass is greener " when the REAL gifts are in the dark recesses of our own basement. Powerful and profound gifts of: What is my Life Purpose? What are my Life's Dreams? Deeper meanings behind pain, stress and disease. So, how do we bring " light " to these dark feelings within us? First, we can dare to listen to our feelings. We can ask: " What's really going on inside me, in THIS moment? And just watch and listen... No need to judge, or critique or get caught up in the " vicious anxiety circle " . Instead, as you bring light to your dark feelings, you will enlighten yourself. You'll begin to have more clarity than you've ever known. Setbacks won't phase you any longer. Problems will become new opportunities for growth. Fear will be understood rather than " shut away " in some old dark room, thus allowing your energy and focus to " come to the surface " Today, take few moments and breathe deeply. b r e a t h e . . . If there's something in your life that's holding you back or that challenges you, try this simple exercise. Close your eyes... Connect with the feeling that your uncertain about... Ask " What's my lesson in this problem or feeling " and just... b r e a t h e . . . Your truth will come to you... and the truth will set you free... For it is YOUR truth. Calming the mind through attention to breath is an ancient and proven technique, advocated by Buddha almost 2600 years ago. One point that might be effacious to understand is that it is not " some of us " who are " hooked on issues " . When we practice the technique of calming mind through mindfulness of breath, then begin to see what arises, we begin to understand that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of suffering and attachment, that attachment is a condition of thinking in terms of " me and mine " . Letting go of attachment through peeling away ig-norance and practicing mindfulness leads to the knowledge of non-self, thus the elimination of suffering through attachment. This process requires much discipline and hard work!
