Guest guest
Hi I'm Jo. I joined the list yesterday because it was recommended by . Unfortunately it seems a little 'cross' at present. I did not see the mail that seems to have caused all this cross talk, but wonder if it would be better ignored, and then it would die down quickly. I have read that spiritual people have fewer chronic illnesses than unspiritual people, and suffer less stress, so I would imagine it could come under the heading of alternative health. I am 54, interested in most aspects of alternative health (and spirituality) -particularly interested in herbs, crystals, essential oils and positive thought (i.e. visualisation etc.) and nutrition. I do Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Yoga, meditation. I am a Pagan, a heavy-metal fan, and enjoy gardening. I also work full-time as a clerk at the local university. I am married (have been with my husband since 1966) and have two grown-up children. I am looking forward to getting involved with the list, which looks very interesting. Jo I don't know how long you've been with but, technically,"moderator" is a term of art representing someone selected by the list ownerto help enforce rules or do work on the list. There are lots of us very, very vocal members but I don't think we actuallyhave moderators on this group, just the list owner. As for learning to ignore it or just leave the group, I can see that you'renot too happy with your mailbox getting full of this endless debate. Thenmaybe you have some small inkling about how the rest of us feel about it, too.If and when the list owner announces that this is a "anarchist list" whereeveryone is welcome to post anything their little heart desires, then I'llconsider quitting because I joined to discuss alternative health notwhatever idle thought crosses every cretin's mind on the list. However, it's been my past experience that the group owner is trying to runa good group here and is not going to let folks run amok or posting spam. It's also been my experience that most of the annoying people that postoff-topic messages will soon get bored and go away. This list has been voted a "hot list" or "best pick" by in thepast. Then, like now, it caused a temporary swelling in the ranks as a bunchof spammers joined to milk the group and as people not appropriate for thelist joined in thinking "this might be fun." Eventually they figure outthat they don't fit here and they go away. Someone earlier proposed that maybe there should be extra moderators to helpthe group owner "preview" messages that are submitted and determine whetherthey are appropriate. Some people don't like to belong to moderated groups, feeling that's a form of censorship. Personally, I prefer to belong tomoderated groups, at minimum I prefer the groups moderate new members untilthey have shown that they can be counted to stay on topic. Perhaps folks should direct their feelings on the matter to the list ownerand just leave it to the owner to decide these issues instead of prolongingthe discussion on list?- AnnaAt 11:16 AM 12/30/02 +0800, Jan B wrote:>I'm only new here but I cannot believe how many moderators there seem to be >in the group ??.. Guest guest
Jo, You sounds like my sole mate. LOL. It's unbelievable how much we have in common. Yoga, yep. Meditation, yep. Pagan, yep. Yes even a heavy-metal fan! That's amazing! I do like a variaty of music, though. My favorite has to be Fiona Apple and various blues artists. I guess we differ on the age, I'm only 21 with 2 small children. ~Kara Kelso~ http://www.momsmarketonline.com - Heartwork Monday, December 30, 2002 2:14 PM Re: Moderated vs. un-moderated lists Hi I'm Jo. Guest guest
Yes, welcome, Jo and all the other newbies. Please excuse me and the more than 1,000 other people on this list if we DON'T post a bunch of these " Glad to meet you " messages without saying anything else since that would tend to clog up everyone's mailbox. - Anna At 08:38 PM 12/30/02 -0600, Barbara Gari wrote: >Glad to meet you Jo.=0D >Karima=0D >=0D >----=0D >=0D > =0D >Monday, December 30, 2002 14:54:15=0D > =0D >Re: Moderated vs. un-moderated lists=0D >=0D >Hi=0D > > > >WARNING: The remainder of this message has not been transferred.
