Guest guest
As we age, thirst becomes a less sensitive indicator of dehydration. Up to half of all Americans suffer chronic mild dehydration that can cause fatigue, headache and loss of appetite. Women should aim for about nine cups of fluids daily; men should try for 12. Drinking more than six glasses of water each day cuts the risk of developing bladder cancer in half. Some evidence suggests that staying well hydrated reduces the risk of colon and breast cancer. Eat more blueberries, and you may be less prone to falls. Researchers at Tufts University fed antioxidant-rich extracts of blueberries, strawberries or spinach to rats for eight months -- and those that received blueberry extracts displayed better balance when walking over small rods. Similarly, the deep blue color of this all-American berry comes from anthocyanin, a powerful plant pigment believed to reduce some of the cognitive problems associated with aging. Garlic anyone? It may keep your friends away, but it is healthy for you! Garlic can protect you from infection, detoxify your body, strengthen blood vessels and lower your blood pressure. It also contains a clot-preventing agent. The bulbs of garlic contain a natural antibiotic and antifungal agent. Use garlic in your recipes. It is a great way to add healthy flavor! You're going to work anyway -- be creative, and you can squeeze in a little effortless exercise on the way. In the morning, walk or ride your bike to the train station or bus stop, or hop off the bus a few blocks from your normal stop and walk the rest of the way. At work, try talking the talk as you walk the walk. Suggest to your boss that you take your brainstorming sessions outside for a walk around the block or a stroll through the halls.
