Guest guest
Brianne, You are 16 & I'm 62. I was very healthy and did the work of any 3 people. I've been tested by an allergist and was not allergic to anything except for mold. I've acheived more than most females, but now I must really push myself every hour of the day. I've always been a very trusting person. I've built custom homes for doctors without a contrat. I never had a problem, but I would not do that again. I was exposed to an excessive amount of chemicals in a short period of time and I became ill. Preservatives = Chemicals Fragrange = Chemicals(3000 to 5000) Chemicals = damage to your nervous system Mold = Chemicals Someday you will learn that money controls what the government tells us. How many years was it before the gov told people to not smoke? Politics are run on billions of dollars and many of those dollars come from the chemical companies. In your dreams: -health department and the government would have already done testing and put out warnings. You are very young and please think for yourself. Brianne, I wish you the best of luck with your soap business. Marilyn Brianne Wood L & M Beaver Tuesday, August 16, 2005 9:04 PM Re: Please, do not use fragrance in your home or on your body !lxldixiedarlinlxl Hmm.. I did some checking into this. Not a whole lot. But, it seems to me that some ppl are more allergic to chemicals than other. Maybe some ppl are born with MCS or get it , like you did. I will admit that I am allergic to some essential oils but I have never shown reaction to anything else except purfume. I do have a bottle of perfume in my vanity but that is all the perfume I own. I like to make my own soap because I know what is in it. I don't add all the preservatives and I am sure it is much healthier than the soap you can buy from other companies. I recently found out (about a year ago) that I was using a facial lotion that has now been found to cause cancer. lol That was a shocker. Ever since then I really quit using lotion on my face because it makes it break out and too I don't want to find out that a product I have been using for a year causes cancer. I am only 16 so eliminating all fragrances in my house would be impossible. haha I will however not quit making fragranced soap because I do not think that the fragrances I use are nearly as harmful as the ones you are talking about. I do not by my fragrances from big companies, they are made by a small company that just makes soap and fragrances..... I don't consider them a big chemical company. haha But, thanks for sharing all this information... very interesting. I just think that not everyone is as sensitive to chemicals as you or other MCS suffers are. Fragrances do effect the nervous system but not all of them do in a bad way. If all fragrances terribly effected everyone I think the health department and the government would have already done testing and put out warnings. Just my opinion... haha Going to run! I would not be interested in any product that is anywherenear fragrance. You would never have anything to do with chemicals if youhad the medical problems that I have had; since being exposed to mold, moldis a chemical. Also, molds are used for bioterrorism. Why do you feel thatour government does not tell us of the dangers of scented products? Howmany advertisements do you see a day about scented products on TV? It'sall about chemical companies and the money that they receive.Brianne, why would you use fragrance on your body when you know thatfragrances damages the nervous system? If you aren't already sick fromchemical exposure and you're still using scented products, do you want togamble on how much longer you have before your body can no longer cope withthe toluene and other poisons in them?DON'T LET YOUR INABILITY TO ELIMINATE ALL TOXINS FROM YOUR LIFE STOP YOUFROM DOING WHAT YOU CAN. If you are still healthy, efforts you make now canhelp you prevent getting chronically ill or getting MCS yourself. And youwill save money by not using products that are unnecessary.Perfume today is not made from flowers but from toxic chemicals. It's aboutas romantic as hazardous waste.More than 4,000 chemicals are used in fragrances. Of these, 95% are madefrom petroleum. No agency regulates the fragrance industry, yet perfume chemicals are asdamaging to health as tobacco smoke. Some toxic chemicals found in fragrances:Toluene, ethanol, acetone, formaldehyde, limonene, benzene derivatives, methylene chloride, and many others known to cause cancer, birth defects, infertility, nervous system damage, or other injuries. The EPA foundchloroform as well in fabric softeners. As Romantic as Hazardous WasteToluene was found in every fragrance sample collected by the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency for a 1991 report. "Toluene was mostabundant in the auto parts store as well as the fragrance section of thedepartment store." Toluene has been proven to cause cancer and nervoussystem damage and is designated as hazardous waste. Not Just in a Perfume BottleThere is a dramatic increase in people who are made sick by fragrancesbecause so many products are now scented. Babies and children are even morevulnerable, as are people who are trying to recover from cancer and otherillnesses.Chemical fragrances are present in most laundry detergents, fabricsofteners, anti-cling products, dish-washing liquids, disinfectants, soaps, shampoos and other hair products, deodorants, cosmetics, suntan/sunscreenlotions, aftershaves, colognes, incense, analgesic creams, and lip balms.Even products marked "unscented" often are falsely labelled and actuallycontain toxic fragrances.Perfume PollutesUsing environmentally-safe products is as important as recycling. Ifeveryone stopped buying unsafe, chemically-scented products, companies wouldstop making them, ending a lot of unnecessary pollution.Scents and IllnessExposure to scented products can cause exhaustion, weakness, "hay fever"symptoms, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, headaches, rashes, swollenlymph glands, muscle aches and spasms, heart palpitations, nausea, stomachcramps, vomiting, asthma attacks (inability to breathe), neuromotordysfunction, seizures, and loss of consciousness.MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) is caused by overexposure to toxicchemicals. Even if you don't feel the effects yet, your health is stillbeing damaged, and you will develop MCS or other illnesses if you continueto be exposed to toxic chemicals. If you aren't already sick from chemical exposure and you're still usingscented products, do you want to gamble on how much longer you have beforeyour body can no longer cope with the toluene and other poisons in them?DON'T LET YOUR INABILITY TO ELIMINATE ALL TOXINS FROM YOUR LIFE STOP YOUFROM DOING WHAT YOU CAN. If you are still healthy, efforts you make now canhelp you prevent getting chronically ill or getting MCS yourself. And youwill save money by not using products that are unnecessary. How to Protect Yourselfand those with MCSfrom Further Chemical Exposurea.. STOP USING ANY PRODUCT KNOWN TO BE TOXIC. Don't use any pesticides orherbicides ever. There are safer alternatives. Don't wear clothes that havebeen exposed to insect repellant, flea powder or spray, flea bombs, mothballs, or other poisons, especially around people with MCS, even if theclothes have been washed. If you feel you have to use insect repellentsbecause of an illness which makes insect bites a danger to your health, keepdistance from people with MCS and warn them. Be aware that insect repellentsdo not repel Lyme disease ticks.b.. STOP USING ANY SCENTED PRODUCTS. Even if you think it's unscented, iffriends say it makes them feel sick, believe them. If you've been usingscented products on your clothes, know that it will take many washings andoutdoor airings to make them safe, and that some scented clothes may neverair out. Don't use "air fresheners" in your home or car; the scent stays onyour clothes. Never use scented detergents, fabric softeners, or anti-clingproducts.If you have a fireplace or wood-burning stove, don't use synthetic logs.Even though they're advertised as environmentally safer, they emit chemicalfumes when burned. Don't burn plastic, cardboard, magazines, newspapers, oranything but clean, untreated dry wood.a.. IF YOU'RE STILL SCENTED, KEEP DISTANCE FROM PEOPLE WITH MCS. Don'tapproach or hug friends without warning them and asking them if it'salright.b.. DON'T GET GASOLINE AT A SELF-SERVICE PUMP IF YOU'RE GOING TO VISITSOMEONE WITH MCS.c.. DON'T HAVE CLOTHES DRY-CLEANED. Don't wear clothes that have ever beendry-cleaned anywhere near people with MCS.d.. BE AWARE THAT EVERY PUBLIC PLACE YOU VISIT ON THE WAY TO AFRAGRANCE-FREE EVENT OR A FRIEND'S HOME WILL ADD TOXINS AND SCENT TO YOURCLOTHES. What we smell from petroleum-based perfumes are volatile chemicalswhich travel through the air and are sticky. If you have to take publictransportation, if you have an errand to do, or if you're going to anotherevent first, BRING A CLEAN CHANGE OF CLOTHES in clean, double plastic bags. Some Safer ProductsFabric softeners, anti-cling products, disinfectants, other strongly-scentedproducts, and most detergents have toxic ingredients. If you use hair mousseand gels, hairspray, or chemically process your hair, it will need manywashings with a safe shampoo and the passage of time before you can bearound someone with MCS without making them ill. What may seem a mildfragrance to you can be excruciatingly toxic to someone with MCS.Listed on the "Guidelines for Non-toxic Living" page are a few of the manysafer products available. Some products are available in local health-foodstores or from mail-order stores, such as NEEDS (1-800-634-1380).NOTE: Ask friends with MCS which products are safe for them. The productseach of us can tolerate vary from person to person. Please be kind to yourself, the environment, and the people you love, especially those who have MCS.- "lxldixiedarlinlxl" MailStay connected, organized, and protected.
