Guest guest
Dear all, Years ago, when I was pregnant with my first daughter, I was offered a drug to prevent morning sickness. As I was being sick approximatley once a minute, I was very tempted to take it. It was approved by the FDA and hailed as a new " wonder drug " . Today, when I look at my daughter, whole in limb, I am so thankful I did not take it. That drug was Thalidomide,. It produced a generation of deformed children, Today, chemical giants are flooding the food market with genetically engineered foods. The pollen from some of the soy foods kill Monarch Butterlflies. Some Potaoes contain a toxic pesticide in their DNA which kill the bugs that would devour them. Terminator Seeds are being produced which produce a sterile crop so that the farmers cannnot save their seeds and have to buy more seeds from the big chemical firms. If the soy pollen kills butterflies, what will the soy crop do to our children? If the toxic potaoes kill bugs, what will they do to the friendly bacteria in our stomachs? If the terminator seeds cause wheat to be sterile, what will they do to the wild wheats from which our domestic plants were derived? I consider this technology is not being monitored adequately by our governments. We are the ones who will have to live with any mistakes. Like thalidomide, it is up to US to determine if we want these risks in our lives. The Organic Consumers Association ( web pages: <http://www.organicconsumers.org> and <http://www.purefood.org> or EMail at< alliance ) is fighting a battle to preserve the purity of our foods and our plants. There are several meetings scheduled with the FDA in November and December concerning Genetically Engineered Foods. They are open to the public but require booking if you wish to attend. One is in Chicago on November the 18th, one in Washington D.C. on November the 30th, and one in Oakland, California on December 13th. If you are able to attend one of these meetings, please contact <http:www.thecampaign.org/fedreg102599.htm> or the OCA and PLEASE make your views known. Attend these meetings! Please send this message on to anyone who you may consider is concerned. Thank you for your help, Penny Khaled
