Papaya Seed Question

Ian, I got a papaya. I know it is supposed to be organic, but my

Health Food store didn't have an organic one at this time, and

hopefully conventional is better than nothing.

I think this is probably a ridiculous question, but before drying

the seeds, AM I supposed to rinse them? I would certainly think so

because there is some papaya on some of the seeds; on the other hand,

I thought I would check because I've heard things (who even knows

if it's true) like you shouldn't rinse seaweed, for instance, because

it affects the flavor, and I don't know if rinsing the seeds of the

papaya would change their enzyme capability.

Right now the seeds are just sitting on a plate waiting for me to find

out if I should rinse them before putting them on wax paper and a

cookie sheet to dry out.

Thanks for any insights you can give me!

No need to rinse hon. Just spread 'em out and let 'em dry out. Every once in a while, move them around so they don't stick together as they dry even though that's no big deal if they do.

Love,

Wow, you can do that too ( " put in the oven overnight on lowest

temp " )??? The heat won't harm the enzymes at all? They really don't

look too atttractive just sitting out here for all the world to view,

I must say, so the oven sounds terrific. It's been a small price to

pay, however, considering what the goal is. Even though they

aren't ready yet, I've been popping one in my mouth each time before I

eat, though I don't know if they have the full value yet.

Thanks for sharing, Sorcy

Sorcy- I put papaya seeds on my salads. Yeah it looks yukky. But it tastes peppery. I never thought of drying and putting into the peppermill. What a great idea!!!

Gotta watch that though.

Enzymes are destroyed at 105 degrees F.
