Guest guest
Der elaine, I agree. the Extension Service here in Clearwter was a total loss as far as identifying anything. Their answer was " weed - tear it out " for nearly everything I took them. However, I am now a member of the Herbal Society and I am trying to get the Florida Botanical gardens that have just opened to label all the plants with the Historical uses.... the best way is to just badger them till they help you....Love PEnny
Guest guest
Well excuse me Jackie, if you all were more knowlegable in your counties, but in Okeechobee they are dumb as a box of rocks, and I don't mind saying so. Seems people would care more about what grows around them. I'm thinking about joining the Florida Native Plant Society --but if there is a special "Herb society" I'd join that. Somehow I thought the Native Plant society covers everything??? Am I wrong??? Trouble is, I don't do meetings out of town. love,Elaine - Jackie Raborn herbal remedies Friday, March 09, 2001 2:16 PM Re: [herbal remedies] Extension Service Elaine,I dont know where you are in FL but the 2 counties I took the MasterGardner programs in were very knowledgeable. Guest guest
Elaine, I have a small booklet (somewhere) that is published by the Native Plant Society and it is called something like Edible Plants of Florida and there were herbs in it. Also, the name implies all native plants and some of them are definitely herbs so I'd say you are right!! Your Chamber of Commerce or local library or wherever meetings are held could probably tell you if there is an "Herb Society" in your town. I used to attend Organic Gardening meetings at the nature park in Clearwater, FL and lots of different groups met there because it was free and a beautiful space.
