According to the information that I have, if you grind your own flax seeds

(with a coffee/seed grinder), three tablespoons of the ground seeds equals

one tablespoon of the oil. The advantage of the seeds would be that you

would get 9 grams of fiber per each three tablespoons, so if you were

shooting for three tablespoons of oil per day, you would also get a good

minimum of fiber. You should *not* cook the seeds into food if you want the

advantage of the oil, which would be destroyed by heat. You can blend the

ground seeds into protein drinks or juice, or you can sprinkle them on

salads.

Hi,

Flax / Linseed is 18 % by weight omega 3 oil and as 1 tablespoon is

about 12 g, you would get a little over 2 g of the omega 3 oil per

tablespoon.

Daily grinding is the only way as the omega 3 oil in the ground seeds

oxidizes very quickly. I keep by unground, organically grown seeds

in the freezer.

Hope this helps,

I also grind my flax seeds in a coffee grinder. I do

not keep my unground flax seeds in the freezer. This

would not be really necessary would it?? Wouldn't they

only oxidize AFTER being ground? I would think they

would keep indefinitely in seed form??

I have been wondering about this for awhile.

Hi Margill,

Omega 3 oil is very easily oxidized.

Sure the hull of the seed should keep it safe (but everything has limits) and as

I have room in my freezer, why not.

And Yes, I do also freeze any excess that I grind,
