Guest guest
Take this seriously, please. We have one in our area and I would not of believed the story had it not come from a cop who's a client of mine. Thing is, the guy is giving away " free " massages and working in what should be a legitimate setting. Hopefully he gets caught before he advances his " technique " and the area ends up with more problems than it has now. Guest guest
I am a male massage therapist. I work on many woman and men and use any means necessary to put my clients at ease starting with education of new clients of draping and discussing any concerns. Options always include clothed massage, someone in the room with them (always, with children, at my insistence), blue hospital gowns, proper draping, or respect of the wish not to see a therapist that one is not comfortable with. I get the issue of men that don't want to be touched by men as well as women that don't want to be touched by men. Usually with a bit of discussion the issue goes away and we have ongoing successful sessions. If they are still not comfortable after my information about procedure, I send them on to someone else, as it would be unethical for me to try to work on them. The massage profession is overwhelmingly female in numbers of practitioners. While in the general population, 90% of sexual predators may be male, it is skewed in the massage and bodywork field due to the gender percentage. We must also remember that sexual predators tend to go into jobs where they have easiest access to their victims. In La Crosse, WI, we had only one case in the last several years. It was a female therapist inappropriately displaying her genitalia & inappropriately touching female clients labia and breasts. She was fired from her massage position and does not now work in the profession. My wife, also an MT, has been 'hit on' by a female client, too. It does happen. No, of course it doesn't mean that 90% of men are perps. That is just plain silly, isn't it? When I sent that stat to the list, I wondered if I needed to make sure to say that I was in no way intending to male bash, but I thought my reputation might just stand for itself. I see that it did not. Bummer. Some people who have suffered abuse as children grow up to perpetrate. Most do not. Many people have grown up with this irrational fear that is myth based. They think that because they were abused, then in turn they will become abusers. It just ain't so. Anukki AnniesHands.com

No. A large portion of *reported* sexual abusers are male. Offhand, I'd guess that 50% of sexual perpetrators are male, given that most adults perpetrate sex in some form or another. Chris. Some people who have not suffered abuse as children grow up to perpetrate. Some do not. Childhood abuse is not the only " cause " of abuse. > Many people have grown up with this irrational fear that is myth > based. They aren't completely immune to becoming abusers either. Chris.
Guest guest
Chris It is not the people who were abused that think that children who are abused will also become abusers. It is society who has put that label out there. As I said before it is the act that we need to be trying to stop not label . We need to quit labeling gender and stop the violent act itself Cathy
