Guest guest
I am not an herbalist but I practice Oriental medicine. Seek and you shall find. 11pm-1am - Gallbladder 1-3am - Liver 3-5am - Lung 5-7am - Large Intestine 7-9am - Stomach 9-11am - Spleen/pancreas 11am-1pm - Heart 1-3pm - Small Intestine 3-5pm - Bladder 5-7pm - Kidney 7-9pm - Pericardium (Heart Constrictor) 9-11pm - Triple heater (Burner) It would be an imbalance not a disease - maybe a dis ---ease in one of the organ systems. I thought of posting this earlier today but it has been busy. There are also other things involved. The lung/large intestine is at its weakest right now as it is autumn. Each pair of yin/yang organs have a season (correspondences) when they are the most vulnerable. Rather than send people to my site I will post the article that I have written about autumn at the end of this post. I hope you will find it interesting ! The other thing that you should keep in mind is why you are awake - meaning what is happening in your head or body? Most people don't know to ask this - that is why I have written my Power Points booklet - it is how to wake up without coffee and sleep without pills. Ask yourself when you awake what is happening? Are you running thoughts over and over again in your head unable to fall back to sleep? Or are you feeling wired as if you had a bunch of caffeine even if you didn't have any? These are different situations and require different acupressure approaches. The first is when you would use points on the wrist called the obsession points. The spirit needs to be calmed. The second - feeling wired - requires points to balance the adrenal glands so that the adrenaline isn't surging - they are located on the ankle. Very effective. Pictures are worth a thousand words when it come to this. I have an article with photos up in a sleep disorder web site. I will look for the address. I am not sure where I filed it and I have sooooo many emails saved in different files and bookmarks Here is the article on the season of autumn and the lung and large intestine. You can also read other ones at my www.bebest.com site. ****** Oriental Medicine and the Season of Autumn - reprint of article BeBest.com 781-784-0750 Autumn is a time when many people catch head colds. Often we simply write this off to shutting the windows and being in closed environments with other sick people. Maybe we think it is due to our children going back to school and bringing head colds home. Sometimes these colds can turn into upper respiratory infections and bronchitis. Oriental Medical theory is often explained by the Five Elements: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. That theory would take many articles to fully explain. I will however, touch on certain aspects of the theory to explain the changes that we see in our health and well being at this time of year. The autumn is associated with the metal element and along with it certain emotions, body parts and organs that become hypersensitive and out of balance. Some people have a great predominance of metal year-round. Often I will ask a client what their attic or garage looks like. If they tell me that it's filled to the gills with items that they simply cannot throw out then I suspect a metal imbalance. The metal person accumulates, not so much because of the need to have, but because of the desire to hold on. They are pack rats. The converse can be true as well. A " metal " person can also be someone who is organized to the extreme, a neatnik, who labels all the containers in the refrigerator with date and contents, who simply must have everything in exactly the right place. The word often used for this aspect of a metal imbalance is anal. A dominance in metal can show itself physically as bowel problems or asthma. Weakness in the metal element presents problems related to the lungs, the large intestine, and the skin. For this reason, many people suffer shortness of breath, poor elimination, or blemishes in the fall. The lungs are our most vulnerable organ. Add the seasonal weakness, and colds and flu can easily take hold. To make things worse, with chronic weakness and mucus, a late summer cold may turn into asthma. The emotion associated with the lungs is grief. A person that has gone through a prolonged period of grief will often have breathing or bowel problems. In the autumn these problems may become more severe. In addition, one who is normally cheerful may find themselves with feelings of melancholy or sadness. Many people can see these changes happening. I certainly can. At the moment of this writing I feel a weakness of the lungs. My breathing has been shallow and I have been staving off a fall cold. I also have found myself spending hours meticulously working on an outside project creating a directory admittedly becoming a bit possessed by it all. I have been over-emotional and sentimental. Some of these symptoms are due to the seasonal shift to autumn and part is due to an underlying weakness. My father passed away a little over a year ago. Grief damages the metal energies and at this time I am especially susceptible to colds and flu. I need to stay alert to these signs and strengthen my body, mind and spirit. How do you get your metal element stronger and beat the blues and the flus? Food - add more lung energy (chi) enhancing foods to your diet such as pungent spices, rice, oats, sweet potato, yams, potato, carrots, fresh ginger and garlic. Avoid all dairy products as they introduce phlegm into the weak system and create more mucus. Avoid smoke and other environmental toxins. Get outside in the clean air. Do deep abdominal breathing. Have a good cry - let it out. Holding grief in, or refusing to recognize it, is extremely debilitating. Grab a box of tissues and let go. Consider adding astragalus to your daily herbs. Astragalus enhances the wei chi (the chi that lies on the outside of the body, part of your immune system.) Herbs that boost the wei chi should be taken for prevention and not while you are ill. They strengthen the outside layer so if you start taking them while you are ill, they will seal the illness inside the body and you will stay sicker longer. Have a cup of ginger tea - it is pungent and tonifying to the lungs. Most importantly nurture and nourish yourself in any season. Guest guest
Dear Patricia, Many thanks for posting the chinese clock, it goes a oong way to explaining how the things in my life are manifesting. I too lost my Dad 19 years ago and I am trying to release the grief but find ir difficult to release even though i want to. It has become the habit of a lifetime. The autumn inbalances are interesting, so true for me also. It is spring here and I have just been through a winter of colds and flu because I didn't let go. Do you have a botanical name for Astragalus, so I can track it down here? All the best for the trip the Sth America, Love and Light, Ninox
