Would anyone have any suggestions about a site where I could learn a bit about

totems?

It has been suggested that my vision of the peacock feather of golden light

during my attunement might be an indication that the peacock is my totem. Does

this sound reasonable to you folks?

I've never researched this, and don't know where to begin, but at least I know

that there is *always* someone on this list who knows the answers and is

generous enough to share their knowledge.

Thanks in advance for this information.

I have found good info on the above site--don't know if peacock is there or

not--too tired to go look at the moment. Hope something there speaks to you

as I could not put off answering your post--

Dear Linda;

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I'll look for the site immediately, and appreciate your reply and

suggestion.

Be well,

Florie

Hi Florie:

I suggested the Bear & Co Animal Cards and " Animal Speak " by Tom Andrews a

couple of weeks ago for someone else looking for animal information; I use both

of them when I am working with people who

are developing a new relationship with a power animal.

The peacock is an interesting bird; its cry sounds like a woman, and the male

has its famous brilliant feather display. In Greek mythology the peacock is the

symbol of the goddess Hera (Juno), who

placed the eyes of her faithful servant Argus in the peacock's tail to honor him

after he was killed by Hermes (Mercury) while in her service. Her chariot is

drawn by peacocks.

Read some information about Hera's aspects (Hera means " lady " in ancient Greek),

which include marriage and the protection of fidelity, and an interesting gift

she has for perpetually renewing her

own virginity by bathing in a special spring ;-) She can also bestow the gift

of prophecy... maybe this is an indicator for you, eh, Florie?

You might also do a websearch on peacocks and read about their behaviors, mating

practices, diet, etc. Often this sort of research is useful in determining the

kinds of gifts/support/lessons an

animal has brought to you. Finally, if you can obtain a peacock feather or some

representation of one, you can place it somewhere that you will be reminded of

your totem and honor its energy and

gifts.

Enjoy your journey!

Florie,

I have been a student of Shamanism for almost 14 years. Whenever I

hear anyone talk about power animals I have to remember that they are

speaking from their experiences and cultural influence. I follow some

of the Native American definitions for their variuos totems but I am

of Celtic origin. Also being a pagan there may be different

relationships than for someone who identifies with some or all of the

Christian teachings.

Don't look to others interpretation on what you saw. Go into your

inner self and ask what it means to you.

Thank you for that good and sensible advice, Rich.

Learning to trust my own intuition is a lesson that I've been trying to

learn for a while. You've just confirmed it for me.

Be well,
