It has been suggested that my vision of the peacock feather of golden light

during my attunement might be an indication that the peacock is my totem.

Does this sound reasonable to you folks?

I've never researched this, and don't know where to begin, but at least I

know that there is *always* someone on this list who knows the answers and

is generous enough to share their knowledge.

Thanks in advance for this information.

My power animal turned out to be a bird. I thought that was very

strange-didn't seem very " powerful " to me. But the more I thought about it

the more I realized that since I was a small child I loved watching birds.

And my favorite bird just " happened " to be the kind that turned out to be my

power animal. The shamon who brought this information to me had no way of

knowing any of this.

I decided I was honored to have it as my power animal.

In Peace,

Leslie

Hi Audrey:

Because I don't have someone who can reliably drum for me and I don't like

being out on the highway alone much at night after travelling to a drum

circle, I primarily use tapes for journeywork. There is an excellent series

put out by the Foundation for Shamanic Studies that includes single and

double drumming, rattles, singing, didgeridoo, click sticks and singing

bowls. They have a particular sort of monotonous rhythm, a set time frame,

and a call back. Here is a link to the FSS site where you can find out more

about those sorts of resources: http://www.shamanism.org

I've been doing journeywork for about a decade now formally, although I will

admit I had similar experiences spontaneously before that occasionally while

meditating or receiving energy work. I like to journey, and find that it is

a wonderful, accessible way to work with my own issues and expand my

personal awareness.

I also like working with the amazing and sometimes obtuse human and animal

guides that I have been blessed with. Crow is one of them, perhaps the most

frequent, but sometimes an animal will come into my life for a particular

strength or lesson. Many times a person's power animal is one they are

attracted to, but sometimes it is an unexpected animal they might not have

chosen for themselves... everyone seems to want theirs to be dolphins,

bears, wolves and eagles, don't they? <LOL> Nobody wants skunks, weasels or

pigeons, eh? But they all have such valuable power... skunks are the

medicine of reputation, for instance.

In order to really respect and honor a power animal, many people will carry

a fetish, or a reminder of the animal. That might be an actual physical

part, such as a claw, feather, bone or hank of fur, or it might be a picture

or figure, like a Zuni fetish. Carrying their fetish in a medicine bag on

their person as a reminder of the animal and taking time to connect with the

animal's spirit by doing something proactive for the living representations

of the animal spirit (such as joining an organization that supports your

particular power animal or if you can, making provision for them... for

instance, I feed the crows that live in my neighborhood in the winter; they

come to my porch every morning looking for their morning dole) I honor all

animals by making an effort, if I see roadkill, to stop and remove the

animal from the road to a place on the verge where it can degrade naturally.

If I feel led to, I might salvage a fetish for my bone & stone bag or for

use in my healing work.

I think that there are a lot of ways that having guides and power animals

affects me and the way I relate to the world. While I am a pragmatist and an

omnivore, I'm definitely more conscious of my role in recycling, ecology,

and replacing what I take away not only physically but energetically.

Blessings,

Crow
