In Native tradition they can be anything from the Prometheus that brought fire to warm the earth to mighty tricksters. Their medicine is magic and mystery, helping us to explore our darkness. Angwusnasomtaka, or " Crow Mother " is one of the most important Kachinas in Pueblo culture. Most Northwest tribes include Raven in their totem poles. They are in the songbird family, and have the capability to vocalize, like parrots. They are very intelligent, live in family units, and keep clean nests. They are omnivorous and do a lot of " housekeeping " by clearing out carrion in the environment. They are very wary and you can't catch one easily, so touching one would be a big coup. They have few natural enemies, but owls will eat them. This is a caution for crow people to be conscious of the dangers of deception, which is owl's medicine. In other words, to avoid naivete' in their interactions with others. When I started working with corvines as medicine I had many unusual experiences; now I find that when I hear that " caw " or " croak " it is a comforting reminder to pay attention. The most important part of your dream, though, is what do these large birds mean to *you*? You expressed that they were intimidating and frightening... yet you also felt that love/affection would protect you (and perhaps your family?). What aspect of your life or yourself might these great black birds represent? -- Blessings, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness " -- --- Rev. Guest guest
Hmmmm - You guys have given me a lot to think aboutl As with my meditations, when I ask two or three questions at once, however seemingly unrelated, they always come out in one big answer and everything fits together. This dream could be doing the same thing. So, the Crow could be a warning for me, reminding me to stay alert, yes. Until my business can support me, I am substitute teaching teenage felons at local boys camps. Sometimes the boys play tricks on me, like this last week. Since I've had a history in my life of wanting to trust everyone and not acknowledge blatant dishonesty, it was hard for me to see what they were doing. But now I am beginning to put two and two together to catch them. On a more primal level, I am sure the Crow represents the mystery of my life goals and how the heck I am going to get there, whether or not they will actually work out, and whether I will be able to keep my family. I know that I will be a changed person after this stage - a transformed one, and it scares me - a huge fear, like I'm being born again into a different life as a different person. Timidly touching the Crow with love, but not feeling like I deserve to? Afraid I will be angrily rejected? It reminds me of my Mom when I was a kid and how she would sometimes lash out.Three different levels addressed in the same dream. Awesome! Love to you all - Susette
