Guest guest
LOL... actually, Jim, this isn't Cathy's theory. There have been brain studies done that show that the female brain has a larger corpus collosum, which is the part of the brain that bridges left and right function. That is not to say that men cannot think with both sides of their brains, but that it is easier for women to do it at the same time. This is definitely in the realm of " Mars and Venus " and is not an (excuse my French) pissing contest as to who has a better brain. I think it is more to do with historical function and genetics. Males in the past have needed a more analytical and focused capability, the kind of brain that enables them to track, hunt, and protect. Females, on the other hand, needed a brain more adapted to browsing, nurturing and assimilation of diversity, to enable them to gather safe food items, raise young and recognize signs of illness. As roles have changed, some of this has altered to a degree, but a true way of seeing that we have not abandoned our genetic sexual roots is to take any given couple to Sears and watch what happens ;-) I would bet you he would buy a hammer and a multipack of knee socks, walk out and be sitting in the car long before she was finished browsing the appliances and shoes! There are wonderful things about the way our brains work, and one of the most wonderful things is that without the balance of yin and yang in thinking and functioning, we probably would not have survived the infancy of our race. Guest guest
All very true. It's important to remember that in evolutionary terms, we just got civilized just an eyeblink ago. As such, we often find ourselves living lives that we're not physically or mentally adapted to as organisms. Much of the behavior that we interesting creatures display that makes little sense in our present environment is aa lot easier to understand if taken in the context of ~4000-5000 years ago. My best guess is that we stopped doing any serious evolution around the time of the development of agriculture. It's only our amazing ability to mentally adapt that keeps our species from self-destructing even more than we have. If you're interested in evolutionary phychology, I can reccomend Robert Allman's (I think the spelling is correct) " Stone Age Present " as a good starting point. >crow > > > Re: love those generalizations >Fri, 15 Dec 2000 13:03:06 -0000 > >LOL... actually, Jim, this isn't Cathy's theory. > >There have been brain studies done that show that the female brain has >a larger corpus collosum, which is the part of the brain that bridges >left and right function.
