Clean Livin'

Well, I would agree, at least morally, that it's useful in most cases to

live a " clean " life; however, I contend that it is a misnomer that you can't

channel energy well, even when you are impaired... it is a mutually

exclusive phenomenon.

When a person is not taking care of their temple, and they do energy work,

it *can be* like a very sedentary person trying to run a marathon...

exhausting physically and mentally. It may lead to crisis and empathic

countertransference, " taking on " things they don't have the resources to

release or cope with. I've known Pranic Healers, though, that require

extended periods of recovery after working and they are doing all the " right

things " .

When I teach I encourage my students to explore the ideas of a better diet,

exercise, breathing, meditation and reduction in substances that affect

their state of consciousness or being, such as alcohol, caffeine, nicotine

and certain drugs and medications. Mostly, I encourage those things because

it increases physical endurance and overall physical health. I think that

when a person is ready to stop using a substance, the body will tell them

and they will stop. In the case of addiction, when a person is forced to

release an addiction and they are not ready, another pops up to replace it.

I agree that when you are doing upper auric work, which requires a person to

resonate at a certain frequency and maintain a certain focus, then it is

much easier to do consciously if you are clean, at least for many people.

For some others, the work may happen in spite of them, or even through the

substance (such as the case with a shaman who uses hallucinogens to

journey). Making universal statements such as saying that substances always

affect the energy field of the person who use them in a negative way is a

little bald and not totally true ;-)

Each person needs to learn a method of self examination and awareness on a

physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual level. For each person,

tolerances, obstacles, gifts and challenges will be different. Blanketing

everyone with the judgement of a certain group of people is dogmatic, and

therefore somewhat " religious " . We don't have to do that. Everyone is

walking their own path, whether we like it or agree with it or choose it

ourselves. We draw broad conclusions of cause and effect from our beliefs

that this makes our lives safer, but we are constantly stymied by examples

of contradiction and exception to our " rules " (such as people who die

despite doing everything right, and people who live to 100 with every " bad

habit " in the book). We have to be very careful accepting anyone's rules at

face value, because they inevitably lead to judgement. Instead, question the

rules, question authority, and look within for your own personal path and

answers! :-)

Crow

Crow, all I can say is " ditto! " We can't make blanket statements that

pronounce what is right for one and all. Yes, there are physiological

systems that appear to function better when given a certain regiment,

but we are also creatures of emotions and that plays a big part in the

whole person as well. We must trust our inner guidance and our

instincts. Each of us is working out our spiritual life through

different experiences and different filters.
