Guest guest
Hi, I wonder if someone might be able to help clarify something that occurred today. I took some artwork (a Chinese calligraphy scroll) into a frame shop and, after transacting my business, continued my conversation with the owner of the shop. She mentioned her interest in oriental art and healing and told me that she had recently heard about Reiki and wanted to try it (I hadn't mentioned Reiki or the fact that I was a practitioner). I told her that I'd be glad to give her a bit of energy, and proceeded to do so as she was sitting on a stool in front of me. During the few minutes that I had my hands above her head and shoulders, I felt quite short of breath, rather like I had just been running. I've never experienced this before, and, after channeling the energy, I was led to ask her if she had any respiratory or pulmonary problems. She mentioned that she had a minor problem with a heart valve and was being monitored by her doctor. Was I taking on her symptoms, being led to ask her a question or suggest that she seek medical treatment; or did I simply get winded from being out of shape and recovering from my own chest cold? This was interesting to me, but I would like to avoid taking on others' symptoms, if possible. Any advice? Florie
Guest guest
Florie... Do you have a means of internal calibration to determine whether what you are feeling belongs to you or the client? That's the first step--determining who actually " owns " the symptom. Also, it helps if you think of the energy as flowing all the way through you. -- --------------------------- Joel P. Guest guest
That happens more than enough times -- you sense or feel what the client is feeling -- then you tiptoe through the tulips so you do not appear to be diagnosing You can close down by closing your crown chakra and putting yourself in a bubble of white and gold light. @ ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Thanks, Joel. I'll have to work on calibration. I don't know who 'owned' today's symptom, but found it quite distressing. Guest guest
Thanks. I often forget the importance of protecting myself. I generally prefer to do distance rather than 'hands-on'. Is there more of a likelihood of taking on another's symptoms when you are physically in their presence? Guest guest
Dear Florrie, I have also had the experience of " feeling " others' symptoms when channelling reiki. Luckily my master is quite sensitive to this and warned us. I discuss it with the patient in order to check whether it is my " baggage " or theirs and thank my guides for letting me know, then the symptons go. Guest guest
Florie: Were you well protected by your symbols. Remember the reiki symbols are to protect you while channeling universal energy to your client. It sounds as if you were permitting some of your own essential energy to be drained. The language you used , " give her a bit of energy " , may have been picked up by your subconscious and the subconscious takes everything LITERALLY. " Send you " and " Give you " are two distinctly different messages to your own subconscious. Reiki should be blended with NLP to sharpen up the wording. Here's a couple of NLP groups worth lurking at for a while to pick up some protection. http://www.essential-skills.com/ http://www.mindlist.com/ rusty Richard M. Guest guest
Rusty-- Good point about the protection. I prefer to use Reiki at a distance--I very rarely am in a position where I am actually with the person who is receiving. I have my own way of sending and it seems to work well. However, I'm wondering if I should have done more beforehand to protect myself in a f2f situation. Excellent point about NLP/Reiki. I may well have 'set myself up' to be weak by misuse of language. Any suggestions--I'm usually very careful to explain that the practitioner is merely a 'channel' for the energy, and I've found that many people are turned off by the word; I dislike the words 'giving' and 'sending', as they imply control or ownership of the energy. I sometimes use the analogy of a plug in a socket bringing electricity to an appliance, but that's a real mouthful! Any suggestions on a short and sweet explanation? I appreciate the suggestions about lurking on some NLP lists. I occasionally read NLPtalk, and have picked up a great deal from their discussions. I was disappointed with Mindlist when I joined a year or so ago. At the time, it seemed like a bunch of horny boys with nothing on their mind but tricking women into bed. However, if someone of your calibre and interests recommends it, I'll be sure to give it another chance. Appreciate your suggestions. Guest guest
Florie: It may be more likely that you will empathize more when you are present with someone, but that does not preclude " picking up " someone's stuff when working at a distance, especially if you tend to do remote assessment or internal viewing. Remember that cording stuff we have talked about... distance and time has little effect on it. In most cases it is desirable to keep our cords to ourselves, or like reikilady suggested, pull back our energy. I never close any of my chakras deliberately, so I'm not sure what she means here. In other cases, such as a love relationship or a parent/child relationship, we often deliberately foster those cords and can sense problems remotely, though not particularly objectively. Kids really have this problem, especially with emotional strife in the family; they internalize, project and misattribute a lot of emotional detritus. The most important thing about knowing whether what you are picking up is yours or theirs is your starting frame of reference. That is why it is best for *us*, if we can (as we've been discussing) to be clear and know what is going on with us personally, so we're not mixed up as to what is theirs and ours, and we do not mistakenly go home with someone else's stuff. Some people will not work with others if they are having physical or emotional problems, not just for reasons of focus, but also because it makes it more difficult to filter out what doesn't belong to them. If you think you might be " prone " to excessive empathy when working with people energetically (not everyone is) then take the time every day when you get up to do an internal scan of yourself to see what is going on with you. As you do it daily you will recognize patterns and will be more likely to know if something feels dissonant or " not yours " . It is a simple thing, and like doing regular breast or testicular exams, it supports our health. Blessings, Crow " Look for Rainbows in the Darkness " , " Richard M. Guest guest
Hi Florie: The danger of energy healers being drawn into negative energy or of being drained of their own energies is very real and difficult to avoid. Reiki uses special symbols and others protect with golden bubbles. I like Donna Eden's approach best. Yah! I agree about mindlist. It's a spin off of Speed Seduction, which is an idiotic use of NLP. However there are some good points brought up. Some guy named Ross Jeffries is suckering impotent males by teaching them how to IMPRESS and Seduce females. Which any female knows, as do most males, is counterproductive. However in trying this stuff they learn NLP in spite of the reason. essential skills, however is run by effective therapists, Tom and Kim and the contributions are in the most part very informative. http://www.essential-skills.com/ " May I help you open yourself to the energies " , is one of the phrases I suggest would be proctective. In most cases just bringing the subject into the space of letting the energy flow through them is effective and does not even require the practitioner's involvement. Far too often the therapist gets involved personally and connects with their own energy, when all the subject needs is guidance in how to do it themselves. Reiki use can help identify the problem, however. Here's a good link on doing that: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/9434/advanced2.html#byosen Master energy healers such as Donna Eden help far more people than just those she has direct energy connection with. This is not to put down reiki but to expand upon it into the intent of the group. Donna Eden's book, " Energy Healing " is a must for all energy practitioners. http://www.innersource.net/ My own approach is through Guided Imagery. Here's a free mp3 file to give an example how I use Guided Imagery and Alpha wave induction to bring on the Here and Now state. just click on the DOWNLOAD Here & Now mp3 demo at: http://www.pacificcoast.net/~rustym/ Agape, ruty Richard M. Guest guest
Excellent. Thank you. This won't disturb the other effects? I will still be able to channel the energy to the recipient as if before? I'll try that next time. F " All of the true things I am about to tell you are shameless lies.
