Guest guest
Hi all.. I need some EFT assistance. I purchased the basic course a few months ago and have managed to get through part 1 of the videotapes and also have listened to the 4 audiotapes so I am familiar with the basic recipe. My problem is that I need assistance *now* for my 7yr old daughter and was hoping someone could help. I have not had much success using EFT on myself or on my daughter. She was attacked in mid December by 2 German Shepherds. It was a very traumatic attack for us both. I was holding my daughter and the dogs knocked us both to the ground and grabbed my daughter and dragged her off across a yard. They ripped her jeans off of her body and played tug of war with them. Several people came to assist and the dogs would pursue whoever had my daughter at the time. A man tried to put her into a truck to get her away from the dogs but one of them jumped halfway into the truck to get to her but he pulled the dog out. All in all, she was one very lucky girl. She had several puncture wounds, bruises, and abrasions but only ended up recieving 4 sutures. Unfortunately, the emotional wounds are harder to heal. She has seen the counselor at school for evaluation and this counselor said that she was doing a fabulous job of self-healing and probably wouldn't need any further assistance. My daughter was doing really well up until about a week ago. She started having nightmares and has been unable to sleep through the night. She comes into our bedroom every night now. We own 4 dogs ourselves and she has no fear of them whatsoever but has just developed a very intense fear out of nowhere of the 2 dogs that live next door. She had a nightmare last night about these 2 dogs and it took me over 1/2hr to comfort her. I tried doing EFT on her and did several rounds trying different set up phrases such as " even though I'm afraid of those dogs next door " .. " even though I'm afraid to go back to sleep " etc but nothing worked for her. Does anyone have any suggestions on something else to try or different phrases to use? I'm really desperate to get my little girl some help! Thanks so much!! Laurie
Guest guest
Laurie: I know it is very hard to hear this right now, but try to be patient with your daughter, as well as yourself. Something you may like to try is another meridian therapy, TAT (Tapas Accupressure Therapy); I have the hand position and the steps up here: http://www.geocities.com/nrgbalance/tat.html It is very simple, very similar to EFT, and your daughter can be taught to do it on herself when she is experiencing panic. The attack on your daughter was very unusual in its pointed focus; I am glad that she has dogs at home that are mild so that she can understand that it was not dogs in general. Post trauma, it feels safer to isolate ourselves, especially from things that are outside our safety zone. While that is normal, we may extend that and exaggerate it to a point of becoming afraid of everything, or afraid to leave our home (agoraphobia). You might try focusing your statements with the EFT to be more about specifics. Is it the dogs, or going to sleep that she is afraid of? Or is it being attacked, and nightmares? Success with EFT is better if you carefully word your statements to reflect what is really going on. She knows about being attacked, and nightmares. It is okay to talk about them, and how she feels about them. You can also try doing some dream crafting with her, having her create a " safety valve " in her dreams, such as a magic wand that fixes everything, or an emergency buzzer that saves the day. Giving her control over what happens in her dream life may help her feel more in control in her middle world reality, which is a pretty scary place for her right now. Good luck, and let us know how things go, both for her and for you. Blessings, Crow Laurie Filsinger wrote: > Hi all.. > I need some EFT assistance. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I was thinking, if your daughter is able to do it, could you just sit with her and have her tell you *her* story of the dog episode. As she is telling the story, at each emotion filled sentence/word, you could stop the story and just tap on whatever it is - using her exact phrase. Then continue with the story, stop and tap. You could do the same with the nightmare. This could take some time, but it would be different than trying to come up with set-up phrases that might not be on the mark. Instead, you would be tapping using her exact words from her story beginning to end. Just a thought... Laurie Filsinger wrote: > > Hi all.. > I need some EFT assistance. Guest guest
I know it is very hard to hear this right now, but try to be patient with your daughter, as well as yourself. Thank you so much for this information. I have printed it out and will study it and give it a try. I appreciate you sharing it. I have heard of TAT but was not familiar with the technique. The attack on your daughter was very unusual in its pointed focus; I am glad that she has dogs at home that are mild so that she can understand that it was not dogs in general. Yes the attack was freaky all the way around but it was very bizarre that they only wanted her. I was very relieved that she was not afraid of our dogs. We even own a German Shepherd and I was very worried that she would be afraid of him but that never happened. They are both the same age and have grown up together though. Success with EFT is better if you carefully word your statements to reflect what is really going on. She knows about being attacked, and nightmares. It is okay to talk about them, and how she feels about them. Thanks for posting this. I wondered if my set up statements were too vague and that was why I have not had much success with EFT. These were excellent suggestions but when I spoke to her about this, she was adamnant that she has no control of her dreams and cannot do these things. I tried a new technique last night. I picked out 4 of her largest stuffed animals and placed them at all 4 corners of her bed as guardins, I shook out the dreamcatcher that I had placed over her bed (she told me it wasn't working and that it must be full). I shook it out over the bathroom sink and rinsed all the bad dreams down the sink. Then I wrapped her in a huge pink bubble and she slept through the night without any bad dreams! What a relief!! Thanks so much for all your assistance!! I am thinking about letting her craft a real-life magic wand. Maybe cut out a cardboard star and wrap it in aluminum foil and let her decorate it with beads or plastic gems or such. We'll see if having a physical magic wand will help her with a visual one during her dreams. Thanks again!! Laurie

This does seem like an exellent approach..like on the tapes when Gary was working with the Vets. Thanks a bunch!! Laurie
